Where is the fuse for the dome light? 1986 GMC C3500

I've looked at a bunch of wiring diagrams and don't know what I'm looking at. Fuse location or number would be great but I can't find it on internet searches. No owner's manual.

Re: Where is the fuse for the dome light? 1986 GMC C3500

Thanks!

I'm not getting any voltage to the lamp. I'm wondering if it's been disabled by a previous owner since the door basically has to be slammed shut really hard to get it to close all the way.

Coming back to a dead battery would drive me to disable the thing somehow if the dome lamp being inadvertently left on was the culprit.

The connector in the driver side back pillar is connected. That's the only thing I've checked besides the bulb and voltage at the bulb itself. Now I'll check the fuse.

Check your door switches, mine were rusted away, and the wiring was no longer attached to the back side. It was just laying loose on the floor..

If you don't have any power on the orange wire at the dome light, make sure the other end is securely plugged in to one of the socket in the BAT bank of the fuse block.

Power to the dome light (and cargo lamp if equipped) is out of fuse labeled HORN/DM, across the shunt - located directly above it - and then to the two columns in the BAT bank:

They both look pretty good. They don't look rusted. I didn't pull them out, just looked at them from the the front.

While I was gassing up (the truck, not me ) I looked under the dash at the fuse block. I pulled the 20A fuse that is the HORN/DM and it looks good. There is an orange wire going to a terminal on the BATT bank. I didn't use a voltmeter to verify the batt bank is getting voltage but I will tomorrow when I can see what I'm doing. Too dark right now.

You'll need to pull them out. That's where they will be rusted, is on the backside. The wire terminal attaches to the back, you will not see it unless you unscrew the door switch from the jamb..

Mine were rusted to the point that the wire was no longer on the door switch.

No I didn't but will look at it tomorrow. I'm getting the truck ready for selling.

It was my Uncle's and I hate to let it go, but need money for other projects.

Couple of wires were chopped in two under the sill plate on the driver's side. And I need a bulb.

All easy fixes. Solder those guys back together and get you an LED Bulb. They make a world of difference.
