Los Solanos

Anyone here know these guys, or maybe are one of these guys? I stumbled onto their videos years ago and have managed to find them again. Couldn't remember the name quite right. Boy do they know how to have fun. Awesome hardware!

Re: Los Solanos

Thanks,
Great video, reminds me of my son and his '87 blazer, he drove in the mud, jumps and more mud, till body finally broke off. Did a lot of it at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, IL. They had an off-site location like this, they did it summer and winter.

At the end, he had 4" by 4" wood timbers running across the frame to hold the body. The final end came when he hit one big ditch in KY, the body flew up in the air, and when it came down it crashed to the ground thru the frame - dead '87 blazer. Took tractor and drag back to barn to salvage what we could. I was in it when the end came. Nothing but a big smile on his face, for all the fun he had over the years. He now has two CUCV Blazers with SBCs, Dana 60s and 14 bolt with locker.

Thanks again for sharing link!!

Re: Los Solanos

I did a lot of mud like this when I was young. I liked to drop down into the sediment ponds and tear it up. I twisted a short shaft of a divorced transfer case set-up in two. It's just enough tube to butt the ends together and it looked like someone opened a sardine can, just peeled it in two. Had to pull the shaft out laying in the soup. That truck was a '69 W200 Power Wagon I put W300 axles under (Dana 60/70 combo). But, that sound of a small block wound out under load makes my heart smile

Re: Los Solanos

I am sure it sounded good, no small block for me. My young days were with an International Carry-All, 4x4 in Nome, maybe 1969. The body was so loose if you parked on an incline you had to open the door while on the flat to get out. No power in their for me, just tall tires that worked great on the beach. We were building the first paved roads in the town on Front Street. On bad days you were driving through ocean foam that came over the break water.

The mud drags would be fun too.

Re: Los Solanos

I had this one out one night at the local quarry. I think there's a mall there now. Anyway, there was this huge stock pile, top soil I guess, with waste deep water like a moat all the way around. Everybody was scared to go into it because basically you'd have to do the whole oval. There was no turning around. My truck was caked with mud before, but I dropped down in there and went for it. It was good and mucky on the bottom and the edges were hard, so it practically steered me around there. My pipes were under water and it sounded like a boat. The tail end kept trying to come around but I stayed into it and counter steered. It did a good bit off it sideways. Once I tried letting off and it stopped sideways against the hard stuff. I did a few forward and backs while working the wheel and pulled out of it. once we were all standing around, somebody said the police were there and they all headed out (I didn't know for sure if it was ok to be there or not). I figured the entrance would be plugged up so I took it up the 150' slope to the road. That was quite a climb. When I crested it I was at the road and with wheels digging, the left front hit the pavement and BAM!!. I got it home and checked it out in the morning. Busted the axle u-joint and roached the yokes on inner and outer shafts. Here is a picture of the morning after

Re: Los Solanos

I'll have to find that picture in my Photobucket. Been trying and haven't found it. This video is better, I think.
