NV246 wiring help

Hello,

Wondering if anyone out there has any experience in wiring the Nv246?

I am in the middle of a frame swap of a 1960 Apache onto a 2006 Tahoe frame, and the last thing I need to get working is the transfer case.

I took l of the wiring harnesses from the Tahoe, and I tried connecting them on the Apache, and it’s like the transfer case control module is dead. There should be life at the switch, and the indicator lights do not come on.

I had 4wd before I took the Tahoe apart. I thought this would be fairly simple. Power to the couple orange wires that power the TCCM, and the brown wires that power the front axle actuator. I tried some trouble shooting, and I do have the front axle hooked up correctly. When I ground the correct pin, the front axle actuator does its thing.

I just can’t figure out why I don’t have any life at the TCCM. It seems like it doesn’t have a power or ground hooked up correctly, but I double checked all of them.

Thoughts?

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: NV246 wiring help

You might want to post this in the Electrical section, because it sounds to me like someone will need to go through the wiring diagram of the 2006 Tahoe to actually help. Maybe a Mod will move this for you? I doubt there is another swap here like yours. Maybe even try a Tahoe forum? Sounds like s fun project and good luck.

Re: NV246 wiring help

Thanks for the reply. I did end up getting it all figured out. And that is exactly what i did. I went wire by wire through the entire thing and got it all sorted out.

The two main issues I had were
1) the serial data wire. I did not have this hooked up originally. The transfer case module needs data from the PCM to function.
2)I thought providing power and having the ignition on would be enough to make everything function the way it was supposed to. The main problem that I learned was that the system needs to see the engine running before it will make the transfer case shift.

I was trying to test it for functionality while I had the ignition on, but the engine off, and that was the main source of my frustration.

As a pure coincidence, I fired up the engine to move the truck to sweep the floor, and happened to look at my switches, and much to my surprise, the whole thing came to life and worked as it was supposed to.

Re: NV246 wiring help

so if anyone is thinking of doing this swap, it really was not that hard. I cant speak to the longevity or functionality of the 246, but getting the wiring to work was relatively straightforward.

Re: NV246 wiring help

Just wondering if the "serial data" you mention is the CAN BUS communication data?

Re: NV246 wiring help

Yes, I believe these are the same. It was the pin that feeds the OBD2 port. On my pin out for my PCM, both pins 58 and 59 on the blue plug were class 2 serial data wires. 58 fed the OBD2, and 59 was unused. So I added a pin to 59, tied the TCCM to this wire, and called it good.
