Scooter's 1970 K10 Build

Hello all just wanted to share my build with you. I have a k10 swb frame (not sure what year) but it has a 1970 c20 cab on it. Currently a manual but I am going to make it an automatic not sure which tranny to use either 700r4 or 4l60e I want good freeway cruising speed. I have 3.07 gears so if I have 33 inch tires I should be about 2200 rpms at 60mph. What is a good rpm? I have a 350 bored 40 over hopefully I will make enough power at the bottom end. Any thoughts? Also where can I get new leafs? And what shocks do you recommend? Should I get my axles rebuilt?

1) do you have disc brakes on it?

2) Your recipe for highway cruising is tasty!

Re: Scooter's 1970 K10 Build

So is there a paticular reason why drums are better then disc on the rear?

Re: Scooter's 1970 K10 Build

I got the fenders and bed off some of the bolts I had to cut because they were so rusty.

Does anyone have an opinion on the brakes they sell a whole kit 4 disc lines and booster jay was saying he doesn't like rear disc.

Is there a reason why disc are not as good as drum in rear?

Got the seat out, the seat belts and the gas tank.

I think I'm going to buy the kit to put the new gas tank under the frame so I can have some room behind the seat for some speakers

The boxed frame rails in the front with the giant hunk of square tube used as a cross brace and it looks like you're missing the second set of supports for the bed right behind the cab. Plus the support between the motor mounts is gone. That's sort of important for the structural integrity of the frame.

Re: Scooter's 1970 K10 Build

I'm not sure why they boxed the front part of the frame but it was a little work to get the brake and fuel lines out. Not sure how I am going to run the new ones. I think I might just drill a few access holes at least it adds strength. The front square tube doesn't seem to interfere with anything so I think I will leave it for extra strength. I'm not sure why they cut the cross member out under motor unless it was a clearance issue.

Questions
1) not sure what bed supports I am missing does anyone have a pic?
2) any suggestions on missing cross member probably just fab my own if I had a picture and some measurements to go off

A donor truck would be nice

Re: Scooter's 1970 K10 Build

Here's what I was talking about. I also realized the reason you don't have a second support is because your frame is swb, not lwb, and I'm a dum-dum. So sorry for the confusion Scooter.
