Exhaust manufold coatings

What is the best cast-iron exhaust manifold coating that you can apply yourself at home? I used some high heat spray paint, vht i think and rust is coming through. The ram horns were glass bead blasted also before paint. They were painted awhile before eng was fired and cam broke in. post up what you used and liked. thanks--------

Re: Exhaust manufold coatings

I’ve used this stuff. The brush on type. Have had to do the odd touch up, but it lasts.

Re: Exhaust manufold coatings

This is what I have always used on my headers with very good results. I've always had it in gallon cans but I believe you can purchase it at Home Depot and Lowes.

Re: Exhaust manufold coatings

Like geezer#99, I used the Eastwood Hi temp coating. My opinion is that it is a solid DYI option. Looks good and so far has been durable.

Re: Exhaust manufold coatings

I didn’t think rust existed out there? I painted the manifolds on my last car build, used bbq paint and worked pretty good. They discolored some but don’t think rust bled thru...

Re: Exhaust manufold coatings

Thanks for the reply's. I have used something like the eastwood years ago. Might have been eastwood lol. Came in a pint can and it went a long way. Probably didn't blast the manifolds good enough as they were rusty to start with.

B454--we don't have the humidity that you have for sure. I'm at 2500' elv and get snow at times. Last year got 83" of rain. tk in garage that gets damp probably doesn't help.

Have to pull them off and start over.

Re: Exhaust manufold coatings

The prep work is very important to a lasting good finish. They must be blasted to 100% white metal to get rid of all the rust.
