My 72 Blazer project - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Well, I have posted pics in the other rooms...so now its time for this one.
This 1972 Blazer was sitting behind a friends mothers house. It had 1992 plates on it. It belonged to my friends brother who died a few years back. When I brought it home it had set for 12 years. (outside). It had dry rotted 33" tires with rusted white wagon wheels on it. It is a 307, 2bbl , 4x4, 3 guage dash, originally three on the tree. It was changed to the floor at some time. WHY, WHY...I brought it home..checked the oil...put fuel and a battery in it and it started and i drove it arround the neighborhood!!!! Since I have several other projects going on, this one is on the back burner. I have done a complete brake job, tune up, new radiator and rebuilt the carb. I had that set of Ralleys so I threw them on it so it would fit on the car trailer. The condition of the body is at that point to where I dont know if she is going to get a nice average retoration or just a daily driver on 35's with 6 inches of lift!?!?! OPINIONS?
Do you think I should leave the 3 in the floor, put it back in the column, or change it to an automatic??? THOUGHTS??

Not sure of what it could be, but I am sure that you should give it to me, or at least let me buy it!! It looks like a good enough start, I'd clean it up and shoot it one color, preferably a flat color because it is a 4X4 and therefore should be used and abused as such!! I never have that kind of luck, I find em' I just have to pay for them and usually dearly to get them.

If it were me, it's already set up for a standard transmission I would get a M465 for it. The engine looks like it's been rebuilt or repainted it looks like it would make a good daily driver after some time and $. I'd keep it stock ride height and tire size for driveability and MPG besides a 307 and steep axle gearing with huge tires would not be fun, unless you plan on going to 4.10 or even 4.56 for 35's. How's that 307 run? Do you know what gear ratio it has?

Cool Blazer, I like the stick on the floor myself, never cared for the
3 on the tree, not to mention since it's convertable the floor shifter
goes better with the flow, jmho, you can go to the 4wd sticky to
see wheel, tire, and lift combo's to give you some perspective

I dont have any idea as to the gear ratio.....The engine seems to run good and really does not burn oil. I did a little engine comparment painting while I had the radiator out but it looks better in pictures than in person....

Inside the glovebox there is a sticker that will tell you which rear end you have. If it hasn't been removed that is. I don't know though. I went for the 4 spd conversion on mine. It was like yours, 3 spd moved to the floor. I didn't like it and wanted the granny gear. If you like the 3 spd though, no reason not to keep it. Keep us updated, Jeff.

Looks pretty good to me. If the floor shifter shifts ok I'd leave it there.
