1970 Blazer 4wd - what's market value on this

A local guy is asking 10k for a 70 Blazer bought new by his father-in-law at a local dealer (he's not sure which and has no documentation but I believe the guy).

Despite being a NM truck, it's had a rocker replaced as well as a portion of the floor pan. I see evidence of other small areas of minor rust. The undercarriage is solid and drive train original. A hitch is cradled under the gas tank and welded to the frame (as are the rear bumper brackets). The back hatch has some fiberglass loss at the latches but the top is otherwise solid. needs new inner/outer grill and the paint job is a cheapie.

It's relatively bare-bones but has gauges, TH350, and the original 350 motor. Aftermarket AC was added (not working) with two holes for hoses added to the firewall.

10k it's not worth. What about 5k? I'd like to get back into a Blazer but was hoping to locate a good local CST. What I like about this one is its relatively clean and original and could be decked out as a CST as part of a rebuild.

Here in Illinois Id pay more than $5000, paint looks good so between 7500-10000. Minor rust to you in NM and me in Il are two different things, you mean bubbling or surface and where is the rust. Looks like a k5 I was gonna buy in WV but the guy backed out.

Thanks for the feedback - it's bubbling paint in the door corners that would be minor to anyone in the rust belt. The paint looks good from 5 feet but not so good up close. The LH front fender cup has rust perforating through as well. Thing of it is, with the paint and no pre-paint photos it's kind of a gamble as to what's underneath. If I get serious I'll run a fridge magnet across the body for filler.

Sure doesnt sound like a typical NM truck? If there are bubbles showing theres sure to be more hiding bit if its clean underneath still sounds good. The bedside are easy to check as well. Sounds like a good driver and future resto candidate.

Yeah the trucks from ABQ south are often rust free...

I would feel guilty paying $5,000 for it if it's as you described.
It has a couple small body issues, but the flip side of that is that it's awefully original. I wouldn't feel bad paying $7,500 for that Blazer.

Yeah maybe I'm too picky - I appreciate the feedback. I'd aim to bring it back to original with a resto rather than drive as is so getting tangled up in details like grinding frame welds off from the trailer hitch, patching holes from the aftermarket A/C, patching speaker door holes, maybe a re-do of the rocker panels, fiberglass repair on the rear hatch, etc.

Your repair list is awfully short. Seriously.
I have been searching for a Blazer for quite a while. I too am being picky. I haven't seen many Blazers as clean as that one. Nearly every Blazer I have seen has a pretty tall list of things that I would need to do to make it right in my book, and that's based off just a couple pictures. Who knows what I will find once I tear into one of those things.

You have a Blazer with a history that you know. That will give you a head start.

I get it...just trying to decide what fair market value is.

Re: 1970 Blazer 4wd - what's market value on this

I see rust bubbles as a big deal. It's rust out,not that it can't be repaired. But even with good paint on the vehicle, that is all gone if there's rust repair needed. It still probably is minor rust out. You have to figure what it would be worth rust free and I think he could get more than 10k if it was. I think 10k is optimistic and 5k a bit low. It's a low rust Blazer and they are far and few between. I'm thinking more like $7,500. It would be great to pay less but the seller is more likely to drop that much than lower and I'm sure someone would give $7,500. I wouldn't be surprised if $8,500 is the bottom dollar and that's I could live with. They're just aren't cheap Blazers that aren't rust buckets anymore. Good luck
