Should i buy it.

Hey Guys,
I have the chance to purchase a 84 silverado for 800.00 and I was wondering if it is a good purchase based on the following problems or should I avoid it. It has a running 305 with a blown transmission and it was hit in the rear bending the bumper down and bending the frame where the bumper mates up. Other than that the body is is pretty solid with no rust and the rest of the frame is pretty solid.

Re: new truck

my concern was with the rear bumper mounts and frame would it be a big problem rewelding mounts or would the frame be considered tweeked?

Re: new truck

Depending on condition of the rest of the truck I would think $800 would be an alright price if it didn't have a blown transmission.
The transmission is a $1200-1500 job if they do the R&R, about $500 for a carry out. Maybe a little cheaper depending on whats "blown" about the transmission.
I looked at a Suburban that had been rear-ended and although the body and rear doors didn't get touched, from the way it was jacked up you could tell the frame was tweaked up.
Point is that with frames, unless you know what your loooking at, it might be toast?
What are your plans for the truck? Just a run around truck? If you don't mind not having the bumper you might be fine. You might be able to cover the area with a roll-pan.
But with the frame issues AND a blown tranny I would think twice about it.
Look on your local craigslist and see whats out there. I have seen running and driving beaters for under $1000 and decent looking trucks running and driving for around $1500. Not show trucks but decent trucks.
