GM 14097395 Roller Cam Specs ???

Looking at the HT 383 Camshaft (14097395) roller cam. Llift is .431/.451, duration @ .050 is 196/206 and 112 lobe sep is one set of specs I have found. Looks like it may have a 108 intake centerline for 4 deg advance.

Another set of specs I have found is lift and dur the same but it says 109 lobe seperation and no mention of advance, big difference between a 109 cam and a 112. Anyone got the true skinny on this cam ? Also the advertised dur specs seem out to lunch, something like 288, can that be right ???

Also will this cam work with stock valve springs ??? Thanks.

Re: GM 14097395 Roller Cam Specs ???

This cam isn't any great cam, it is a good lowend Tourque cam for the 383, Peak TQ on this cam is about 3300rpm, if your looking at this cam for a daily driver in a 4x4 &/or for some towing, it would be a good cam, if your looking at it for a perofrmance cam you can do much better, Also state what heads you are going to use this cam on. Also note that being this cam is a roller and requires different Valve springs than going from a traditional hydraulic cam. The lift isnt anything sever so it will work with most heads.

You should state what you have (vehicle, Engine, transmission & differential gearing) and what you are going after. Also year of Block you have, newer roller cams dont work to well in earlier non roller blocks.

Re: GM 14097395 Roller Cam Specs ???

Well, I have found a low mile 305 from an 89 Camaro pretty cheap. It has the factory roller and still has the fuel pump boss. I will have to change flywheels and add an intake and carb, but I would like to replace the factory 178/194"peanut" cam with something a little better.

That GM cam seems about right and can be bought as a new pull for 50 to 60 bucks.

Note this is NOT a long term runner, but in the middle of doing complete frame off on the body, very expensive, not much money for $2-3000 engine right now and I want to get this going by June.

I need the real specs to be sure, big difference between a cam ground on a 109 Lc and one ground on a 112, too much overlap will hurt my gas mileage.

Re: GM 14097395 Roller Cam Specs ???

I would say that the price is right and according to this description on SDPC2000.com sight its sounds like it might be a good setup.

This GM Performance Parts Hydraulic Camshaft is for a 350 Ram Jet and the 383 truck engine with 1.5 rockers. Makes great torque for daily driven vehicles and tow trucks. Can be used in 1986-99 305-350 Chevrolet engines. The step nose design is for cars and trucks originally equipped with a hydraulic roller camshaft. Can easily replace a hydraulic camshaft in 1986-99 blocks with lifter kit 12371042. Contains the fuel pump eccentric for use with mechanical fuel pumps.

Re: GM 14097395 Roller Cam Specs ???

I am considering this cam to replace the factory cam in my 2000 Escalade which has the L31 5.7 Vortec V8.

I wonder if I will have to get a tune to make it run correctly.
