Where can i get a Tailgate Band?? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have an 87' GMC and my tailgate band needs replacing. I have looked high and low and given up on finding an affordable band used. I see lots of guys on here with the "plain" band without Chevrolet or GMC on it...where can a guy get this?? Thanks.

Very hard to find in good shape used..don't think they are reproduced

I am in the same boat, mine has some dents in it and I wish they could be fixed. They just started making reproduction bands for the 73-80 bodys, so my hope is the 81-87 style is next on the list to be made. Guessing they will be spendy if they do make them someday!

I sold one last year in very good condition. Only had a couple of small dings. It was the tailgate and band, I think I let it go for $150.

One of my buddys chased a guy down the highway and flagged him down for the one off his truck..I think he gave him 300 for just the band..it was perfect though..not a scratch on it..funny thing was the truck was a beat up beater truck..

I have been tempted to do that myself. I eyeball em' all the time. There is a local guy that has a couple, I tried to get them when I was out picking up a couple of seats from him. He wanted to save them for the Swap Meet coming up in May. So I'll have to look him up and see if I can get them.

A little back story on these tailgate bands: My dad made these when he worked at GM, he is retired now. I like to think that the one I have on my truck, was specially made by my own Dad.

Keep an eye out in the parts section of the forum and on Ebay. Check out this site: http://www.car-part.com/index.htm
You might get lucky and find a good or decent one in a local salvage yard.

Those dents can be worked out. Just got to take your band off and work the dents out with a plastic or wooden dowel from the backside. I watched a video on YouTube on how to work dents out on aluminum & stainless parts.

Tkcr...I remembered the other thread a while back where you talked about your dad being the maker of these bands but I couldn't remember who it was..its great to have a family connection to these old trucks

I heard the Blazer bands worked but were narrower...got any pics?

Blazer bands aren't narrower but don't have a cut out for a handle. You need to get an inside handle kit for somewhere like Sir Micheals

I picked this chevy one up the other day for $20

Ran across a GMC band i dug up out of the mud. They wanted $25 w/ gmc emblem missing. I left it where it laid. Had a few small dents and scratches.
