Hawaii holiday. was good.

Hi all,

My wife and I got home 2 days ago from a short stay in Hawaii, we stayed in Waikiki.

We have both been to the mainland US before, but never to Hawaii.
Had a good time, great weather and lots of nice beach time and relaxing.

Hired a Vette for a few days to cruise around the island and see some of the out of the way area's.

My drive of a late Vette, holy cow it went well, not too many spots to open it up, but still had fun no less.

We saw a few nice early pick-ups and a really nice early Chevelle SS coupe, but most of the older stuff on the street was just rusted junk, I am sure there are plenty locked away, but we didn't see many of them.

Our next US holiday will be to the West Coast, but not for 12 months or so now, need to save some $$$$

Sounds like a nice trip. Did you get to the north shore at all?

Hi,
Yes, we did a full lap of the island, starting in Waikiki and headed south along the west coast, past Pearl Harbour, all the way south then back north along the east coast, a few side trips into various waterfalls and treks along the way.
We went up Diamond Head one morning, it was very pretty looking over the city and coast.

We would have liked more time, but it was a last minute idea to go and I have only just returned to work from a 5 week break, so it had to be short unfortunately.

Sounds like what we used to do when we pulled into Pearl. Get away from Waki-Waki.
Did you see the Crouching Lion Inn? There was a great hotel and bar (I think Eddy's) on the other side of the Island. They sang Hawaiian folk songs (all locals) it was great.
Glad you had a good time.

Re: Hawaii holiday. was good.

You will see A LOT of old iron (and a lot of early stuff) in southern california.

You'll see a good bit of 60s/70s stuff out, but if you want to see the really cool early stuff (30's-50's) you need to look up car events/shows and check them out.

I went to a couple "local" cruise nights in Huntington Beach while I was there. The best was donut derelicts in Huntington Beach, it's every saturday morning, and get there early! A lot of those guys take off after only an hour or so.

Since you're a year out... try to plan it during a big show weekend

It's hot rod Magazines and In N Out burgers 70th anniversaries and there's a big show in Pamona that I wish I could go to, I think it's next week.

Re: Hawaii holiday. was good.

I was in Waikiki in late September and didn't see any classic cars or trucks which I thought was strange. We had a great time and even met up with my mom when she arrived on a cruise. Did the island tour as well and liked the north shore. I would consider staying on the north shore if I went again.

Re: Hawaii holiday. was good.

If you get to the West Coast next year look me up.
I enjoy meeting people from this board, with the same passion. I am in Sonoma which is right in the heart of wine country. A beautiful place to visit. And, we can look at plenty of trucks to boot.
