Welcome to Washington State

Just transferred the title to the 99 Ford F-150 I just purchased. Had nice new plates, some of you guys call em tags, and it was all renewed by previous owner in June. That will save me some bucks, right? Well it used to, no more.

Here is the breakdown on the $759.10 I just spent with my otherwise lovely state of Washington.

Happy for ya Mark,, nice ride and I like the size ,, In Idaho we have some tricky things that makes one pay more to.. and every 7 years we have to buy new ones,, I guess they wear out?

Re: Welcome to Washington State

The license plate is one cost and the reflective part of the plate is another ... good grief.

And I have no idea what use tax is ... sales tax on what I paid?

Emergency medical for when you see the bill?

Re: Welcome to Washington State

It would bother me far less if they just combined all the BS into one or two charges and I just won't read the fine print because I really don't want to even know. It is what it is, not negotiable. So just tell me how much fer cryin' out loud. I'm only writing one check!!

Title application fee? Do they do it for you? Title service fee? You have to pay the clerk's salary? Title filing fee? That isn't servicing it?

Yep, new plates and license every time you transfer a title now. At least you didn't get dinged for the $5.00 sub agent fee that i get at the local place.
And having to pay gross weight fees on a passenger car is bs

Re: Welcome to Washington State

I have never bought a truck in WA (Snohmish) but I loved the fees when I moved up here few years ago and transferred my 2005 chevy 2500 . I also love the yearly renewal fees compare with what they are in CA.

Re: Welcome to Washington State

One of many ways our govt agencies taxes us without calling it that. What the heck anyway. They'll honestly call something a tax, like a school tax added to local tax that should cover schools. Then, if they so desire, they will dishonestly take money from that tax to pay for something else.

It is a Trade Off, some states nail you on personal and property tax and take it easy on vehicle tax. The Government is going to get a their Pound of Flesh from you one way or another.

I think that $601 is the sales tax based on purchase price.

Yep, which is why I put down a $500 purchase price on each and every used vehicle I buy

You cant do that here. They will not except that, especially if its a newer-ish vehicle.

On the older vehicles they have a book they look up the cars value with, the last one I changed the title on I had to sign a paper stating the sale price was true. Also they are asking for the gross weight of the vehicle. It was close to $100 just to transfer title on a parts car

Re: Welcome to Washington State

At least you can pump your own gas? That was weird being in a convertible with the top down and some random person filling my cars tank for me when we went through Oregon (had no idea it was a law). The next time we ran the PCH I refused to stop for gas in OR

We pay a sales tax to the county when you purchase a vehicle (5% of purchase price capped at $500 if it's a 10K car or 100K car) then we have a yearly property tax that does depreciate. My 2015 Z71 was almost $600 the year I bought it, in year 3 I recently paid $320. My classics are all like $50/yr. My wife's 8 year old Mustang was $420 when it was new, it's down to $100/yr now.

Re: Welcome to Washington State

Jesse ,when we went out there in my wifes 72 Malibu Convertible they let me fill it up cause I would not tell them where the gas fill was .

Here in Ga the Tag office determines a value on your vehicle no matter the year or what you paid for it . Buy a near new vehicle and it is thousands of dollars in tag fees .

I remember a guy in Connecticut posted their state was like that and he had to pay some stupid high fee to register his truck and it was like a $2,500 truck and not a show truck, which is basically the value he had to pay taxes on.
