Just picked up a 1997 GMC C1500. Its got 208k miles. steering isnt bad but not quite as tight as Id like it to be. I havent done any suspension work on anything newer than 1969, are these pretty much the same thing? I looked at PST but they never offer complete kits and they are over priced in my opinion. Any recomendations on where to buy a stock style complete rebuild kit? Thinking of replacing the steering box as well.

I would use Moog suspension parts.
Check Rock Auto or Amazon, online.

I'd bet money that your idler arm is worn out. I saw those trucks often get multiple idler arms replaced under the 36k mile warranty. Moog makes a Problem Solver idler arm that is substantially stronger than the stock ones and solves all that mess.

Thanks guys. Just ordered a kit off of ebay that uses Moog parts. Pitman arm, idler arm 2 inner and 2 outer tie rods for $56 shipped to my door. I googed the part numbers listed and they came up as Moog parts. Hope it tightens up the steering.

Anthony, I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect you won't get Moog parts. A Moog idler arm will cost what you quote is just by itself. The thing is, many parts stores use the same part numbers as Moog for their more inexpensive line of stuff. For instance, at O Reilly a Moog and a store brand are same numbers.

yeah I noticed that the Moog stuff was pricey and wondered how it was so cheap. I guess we`ll see when it arrives but its gotta be better than what`s on there now.
