58 GMC parking light bezels

Decided to get my original '58 GMC grille re-chromed. So now i need to figure out what I'm going to do about the parking lamp/ turn signals. There are no reproductions available that i have seen, so i need to make some type of backing plate that i can mount a bullet lens to. Not going to do a painted flat piece of sheetmetal. Any ideas?

Re: 58 GMC parking light bezels

not sure the gmc bezels are repopped, but then neither are the lenses
but if you have your old bezels in any condition...

my chevy bezels were rusty and had holes in them
repops were $49 each at the time, too much for my tastes
i sand blasted and repaired them to put body color on them
new lenses, they were cheap

what's wrong with this bezel?

$40, doesn't seem out of the question if the piece is any good.

That bezel is for Chevy only. The GMC is kind of tear drop shaped.

650.00 to repair and re-chrome the grille. It's an investment! I decided not to build a custom grill and keep things looking classic.

Doesn't seem bad to me if they are that rare and you need them. Just buy them, LOL. My last truck was a 69 Dodge and there was virtually nothing reproduced for it so most everything I found was NOS. I think most every thing I bought for it was at least that much. When you find something rare like that and buy it, there's always the possibility that you will find it cheaper later, but there's also the chance that you won't find them again.

Re: 58 GMC parking light bezels

I'd be willing to produce a small run of these lenses. Doubt if the market is large ennough to justify tooling up for a large run, but a guy could crank out 50 sets of something. Looked at doing this earlier with the Cameo lenses but they were selling recently online for $12 per or something like that, wasn't worth the trouble. It does take some time and trouble to make the molds and produce the parts. Anybody think they'd sell for for $80/pair? I would need a an NOS pair to make the the mold, which would be returned undamaged to whoever would be willing to lend them.

do the screws that hold the center bullet on also hold the lenses to the metal frame or how does that work? I looked around some, didn't see a good view of the assembly. Anybody know if the bullets are different from the typical 57 Chev pickup park light lenses?

Re: 58 GMC parking light bezels

The lenses or bezels are held onto the grille by a plate on the back of the metal lamp housing. The bullet lens is not the same as the Chevy and is smaller. The bullet lenses are available. I guess I'd expect to pay 80.00 a pair if a guy went through all the trouble of making a mold and pouring them. It would sure be nice if they could be cast out of aluminum and polished.

Re: 58 GMC parking light bezels

Unfortunately, I only have the right side. Then there is that piece of rubber trim that goes around the assembly. It may not be necessary for mounting.

Re: 58 GMC parking light bezels

thanks for taking time to post, dyno.

so the two vertical screws screw the bullet to the larger lens, and two horizontal screws hold the lens to the metal bracket seen in the second pic? I don't see much of anything to hold the metal bracket to anything? Do I have it right?

My grille has a hole in it sadly. I wonder if it can be repaired. Do you have an before and after?

Yes, the 2 horizontal screws hold the lens to the bracket and grille.

Here is a link for the bullet lens at Truck Shop: 4.00 ea., p/n 55-01006

Re: 58 GMC parking light bezels

yeah, they're selling the same one for 55-57 Chevy and 58-59 GMC. Is that right?

I have new Chevy park light bullets here, could you measure the diameter of your GMC bullets and post it up here?

Looks like 55-57 Chev and 58-59 GMC use the same lens.

The stock GMC lens is 3" dia x 1.75" tall.
