This Old Truck

My son Zane wrote this poem for school. I felt it was worth sharing.

The engine doesn’t run
It won’t even crank
The pistons won’t move
There stuck in place

The rear gear is bad
Might be stuck in place
It just won’t move
And it’s taking us off pace

The transmission is bad
It just won’t grab a gear
The shifter can’t move
Just not one inch

This old truck, beaten and bruised
She really looks rusty
But the body was good
The lines are even straight

But she gets torn down
Right down to the frame
Every bolt taken off
With some screams of pain

Old engine out
And next comes the trans
The new ones mount up
And bolt right in

The body goes on
Straight as a whistle
Back to the engine
Should be turn key, and ready

Key in and pray it starts
Turned the key and she starts to crank
*BANG!*
Then it comes to life

The trans goes right into gear
I go out the drive
Onto the road
So long I'm out of here in my 71 Chevrolet

Re: This Old Truck

I can tell from this poem that you and your son have a great relationship. This was written by a kid who has really listened to his dad.

Re: This Old Truck

Good stuff. You are probably proud to know he has been paying attention and will have memories that will become stories to his kids later on.

Re: This Old Truck

I told my son one time I have personally never seen 3 things.

UFO'S
Big Foot
Or a cool Honda.

I had to go talk to his principle one day for that, and the Clay Smith cam T-shirt he wears alot.

He was not amused

Re: This Old Truck

Glad all enjoyed the poem. The truck is his and he is a truck guy through and through. He and I did the restoration and no work was completed on the truck unless he was participating. He knows every nut and bolt. The poem is based around the history he has with the truck. Each stanza has a story behind it, even the BANG for when the distributor was in backwards!
