Suspension question

I need some input/help from you guys. I am currently rebuilding and restoring the front end of my 1970 GMC 3/4 ton truck. I am not converting any of it to 1/2 ton parts I want to keep the towing capacity. I would like to add a shock (front and rear) that helps smooth out the ride a bit. Any suggestions from the truck community out here as to which shocks you have used in the past that worked well? I'm not expecting a smooth ride here, just looking for good quality shocks that help with the ride.

Any standard shock at the parts store should work fine, if you're not looking at doing high speed cornering or off-road racing (not to be confused with just driving on a dirt road).

I put KYB gas adjust on my C10 and love them. really made a big difference over the cheap Monroe's that were on there. Smoothed out the ride nice but yet still firm.

I used the KYB Gas-a-Just on mine so far they seem to have a good ride but haven’t had a chance to see the long term life of them since I just put them on this summer

I have the KYB GR2 on my short step and they have been pretty good. I got them cheap so no complaints. But if you plan on keeping the truck, buy the Bilsteins. No regrets.

I agree with the idea of a good gas type shock. On my C20 I did add a front shock mount stiffener.

Is that bracket mounted to the top of the shock stock or aftermarket? The last owner of my truck didn't assemble it to great so whenever I see something like that I have to ask.

It's an after market kit that stiffens the stock shock mount stud. Easy install. I added it to my front end rebuild for peace of mind. It's available from any of the truck parts sources, LMC, Brothers, Etc. I'm rebuilding our '72 C20 for daily driver duty.
