Replacing oil cooler lines

93 Suburban 350 with oil cooler. Just had the line go bad and was lucky enough to see the smoke behind me before it pumped out all the oil.

Read on these I see that the quick release clips retaining the line on the oil filter adaptor end are problematic. Seems at least a few people have lost and engine due to these.

I am replacing the engine very soon and sure don't want to fry the new one I am looking at option for replacing the quick connect fitting.

I saw a video where one guy cuts off the end and flairs the tubing and replaces the ffittings in the oil adaptor.

Not familiar with all the fitting available for braided lines, but why cant I just cut the hard line. Add a compression fitting and just adapt in a short length of braided line on the end and screw on fitting to the adaptor?

Re: Replacing oil cooler lines

No photos. It's the factory line as far as I know.

Didn't think about it might be metric. I was going to look at it Monday and put the calipers on the tubing. Maybe pull a fitting out and see if it standard or metric.

Re: Replacing oil cooler lines

I stand corrected, it was the oil cooler adapter that was leaking. The O'Ring was hard as a rock.
Lines are 1/2" though.
