Question SM465 Input Shaft Speedi-Sleeve #

Hello.
I searched for a part# and came up with different parts with specs that sound incorrect. I’m pulling the trans for a clutch job and am getting anything I might need now or in the future.
Thanks.

Educate us!
What’s a speedi-sleeve?
You got a pic or a link to one?

Re: SM465 Input Shaft Speedi-Sleeve #

I’m a Noob to these boxes, so I might be missing something. The go over shafts where seals have worn the surface out to the point that the new seal won’t get the job done anymore.
Link: Rockauto lists these - https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...r+sleeve,10566

Same as the one for a harmonic balancer.
But why would you need one for a clutch job?

Make sure you resurface your flywheel, some times you may have to wait for the flywheel at your local machine shop so maybe call ahead to ensure the machine shop can turn the flywheel in a time frame that fits your schedule. Not everyone works weekends like the DIYer's do.

I’m out on a mountain in the SW desert. I’m buying new everything. The drive to service a flywheel would almost cost in gas what a new one runs.

People need to read your profile before providing any feedback. I even missed it that you live on a side of the mountain, BTW which side of the mountain you live on, sunny side. So you dont have to buy a light with the vehicle parts you are needing .

Re: SM465 Input Shaft Speedi-Sleeve #

input shaft goes threw the t/o bearing sleeve and then is sealed to the t/o bearing sleeve unit with a seal. this seal rides on the input shaft .

part blow up #3 shows the seal i think he needs the speedi sleeve for .

Re: SM465 Input Shaft Speedi-Sleeve #

So then if he finds the right sleeve he needs a new seal and housing gasket too.
I’ve never seen the seal leak.

Re: SM465 Input Shaft Speedi-Sleeve #

I have used the speedy seal, on rear diff yolks....but, they are cast iron. I wont say never, but I have not seen that hardened steel input run a groove from the seal? I have not seen it all, in my 61 yrs young, but all I have rebuilt did not show me an issue....Longhorn

I believe the OP just wants to have everything he could possible need prior to removing the trans and tearing it apart. This is mainly due to his remote location.

Re: SM465 Input Shaft Speedi-Sleeve #

The seal rides on #8 right in front of the brg. I have never seen one with any wear to need a sleeve. I dought if one is available for it. It is a narrow space.

Re: SM465 Input Shaft Speedi-Sleeve #

Hi Perma71

You didn't say 'why' you're doing a clutch job. If it's because the front trans seal is leaking, I'd suggest buying a new front seal along with a clutch kit (disc, pressure plate, t/o bearing). Make sure the kit comes with a pilot tool as some don't.

The speedie sleeve would be nice to have & is pretty cheap so it's up to you. You probably won't need it unless your transmission has 500,000 miles on it & never had an oil change.

Fwiw, I too live on a mountain top & know what you're dealing with. Good luck with the clutch job!

Did it today. Changed seals and all of the clutch assembly.
The input shaft looked good.
