looking for info on shorting a lwb

I have been searching using the tools but just can not seem to find the info on how to shorten a 3/4 ton to make into a K10
please any help would be real nice.
This is for the 72 4x4 leaf spring truck.

Re: looking for info on shorting a lwb

Are you trying to make a k10 from a k20?.....a k10 is a 1/2 ton...it could be swb or lwb
Or do you just want a swb k20?...
Or are you just sticking 3/4t axles under a 1/2t chassis?
Or are you wanting to do a frame swap?

Turning a k20 LWB into a K10 SWB 1/2 ton axles will be going under it.

Re: looking for info on shorting a lwb

ive done several frame shortenings...leaf spring trucks are easy....I always make a straight cut and then reweld..some do step cuts..I usually add a piece inside the frame lip and a diamond over the weld on the outside
I always cut in the straight section of the frame...in front of the spring hanger
2wd and 4wd leaf trucks are the same process...
heres another way...http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=123624
and heres a video.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6o2k...B_ZjfdtUZEO2Po
there are also bolt on kits to do this as well but I prefer welded much much more...
I always use matabo style blades to cut with....leaves a nice clean edge

Re: looking for info on shorting a lwb

heres a 4wd I did recently 1st pics show where I cut....on this truck 12" from the center and 4" from the rear
next pics show the sections cut out
last pics show it all welded back together
my c30 has the same thing done to it but I wound up cutting a total of 5ft out of that frame

Re: looking for info on shorting a lwb

To do the z cut you'll need 2x the amount of straight frame to do it....so if you want to take 12in you'll need 24in of straight frame to do it....look at the link and vid I put it will give you an idea of where to cut....

Re: looking for info on shorting a lwb

I Z cut my 73 K20 frame in the straight section in front of the rear spring hangers. I shortened it 8" to get the wheelbase that I needed for putting my 57 long bed body on the 73 long bed donor chassis, but it's the same job no matter the length that you need. After I shortened it, I also welded plates over the joints. You can see them in the picture of after I got the frame sand blasted.

Re: looking for info on shorting a lwb

I think you'll need 8in off the rear not 4......do you have a swb frame to compare?
