edelbrock tuning
im looking for some help on tuning my carb to my engine. first off the carb is a 500 cfm with electric choke. the engine is a 250 inline 6, its bored .060 over, milled .060 off the head, zero decked the block, still has the stock 1.72 intake valves, clifford cam with 264 advertised duration with .518 lift. its also has the clifford four barrel intake with long tube headers and has HEI. its gonna be bolted to the three on the tree for a few months but i have a 700r4 that im going to rebuild and put behind it eventually, so i wanna tune it with the 700 in mind. im really not sure were to start with what size jets and rods to get, i doubt the out of the box setup will get me max performance. i would like to get a holley 390 but i have the eddy thats only a year old and i'm trying to keep costs down cause i just bought my first house. so any help would be appreciate fella's

Re: edelbrock tuning
As far as precise tuning to the engine, I think you'll need to buy a complete tuning kit from Edelbrock with all the jets and rods, however I had a stock internals 250 in my old 67 and used the 500 and had great results with it out of the box. I tried tuning it down but never had good success, but I really didn't know what I was doing. I really think you'll be right in the ballpark with the amount you've bored and milled and think that you'd be throwing money away by buying the kit. Just use a vacuum gauge and check the plugs and you'll be very, very close to ideal. Btw, I was getting up to 18mpg at 65-70mph with my 250/T5 combo!
