Re: 55-59 Chevy Gauges

bcubed, i converted my amp gauge to a volt meter and kept my stock look.
look in my build thread if interested.

hirmkim, i used a 2'' gauge in my amp-to-volt gauge swap.
the stock gauges use the 2'' gauge guts, the needle sweep will be the same.
you can mount the new style gauges in the factory bezel by stripping the
case and lens off the new gauge and mount it into the old back.
i choose to re-use the stock gauge face, but you could use the new face too.

Re: 55-59 Chevy Gauges

I bought my billet panel from Boese Engineering. It was the best deal a couple of years ago for $99. Fits good, looks good:

http://www.boeseengineering.com

They also have the panel with gauges as shown on their site.

I did that too but bought and installed my own gauges.

Wow, what a nice polish job! I might put a matte finish on mine or polish it up better like you did. This truck is for my wife so I'll let her make that decision.

Where did you get the LED's for the signals and high-beam? Mine didn't come with any and I need to get some.

This gets more weird. I'm building the truck for my wife too.

I didn't polish the panel much, if at all. Just used Simichrome. The bezel is new, an Ebay buy.

The LEDs came from Boese. Go to boeseengineering.com, click on miscellaneous parts at the bottom of the home page, then page down to the LEDs.

Thanks! They're on their way.

What's even more strange is that there a 2 others doing trucks for their wives over on trifive.com where I hang out. I hang out there because I did a restomod for me on a '55 Bel Air that I finished a couple of years ago. So, I chose to do my wife's pickup build thread over there in their truck section. It appears the women like the trucks! My wife has always liked them.

I'm going to check out your build thread later this evening.

More weirdness: A restomod for "me" on a '55 Belair -- bought 1969, built 1981:

My wife was raised on various mini-farms in northern Kentucky, and even had a pet lamb, pet rooster, and a pig named "Runtzy". Trucks are in her blood, I suppose.

Looking for gauges 58' Chevy, bezel and panel in good shape. Classic Instruments web page displays complete unit and bezel w/RPM. Suggestions Please.

Re: 55-59 Chevy Gauges

Getting ready to install my gauge setup. I found out that the chrome bezel would not clear with the Stewart Warner gauges I had put in my Boese panel. So, I had to buy 4 Autometer gauges to match the speedometer that I already had.
Also, my wife and I decided to go with the brushed aluminum look on the panel as their is some other brushed aluminum on the dash that will make it tie-in better.

I guess I'll put those 4 Stewart Warner gauges for sale on ebay.

[QUOTE=_Ogre;5225645]i'm just a fan of the stock gauges, i guess
all the aftermarket gauges look aftermarket afterthought and a little pricey

i converted my amp gauge to a volt gage
lack of a tach bugs me a little, someone needs to come out with a stick on digit tach

This little guy? You can pry off the face plate and incorporate it any place.

Bringing up this old thread has me all excited to build my gauges here soon.

Re: 55-59 Chevy Gauges

i've seen the tiny tach
non-replaceable battery would mean replacing every couple years
anyone use one of these tiny tachs?

I wonder how quick the update time is on the display?

If it's like the LCD speedo display on my bike, that thing's been working for over 10 years!
