Will a 1973 GMC grille fit directly into a 1975 GMC

To day on the way to taking my daughter to school I hit a bird and it broke my grill. I think I'd like to replace it with a 1973 to 1974 GMC style. Is this a direct replacement? If not, what all does it take? And does anyone know where the best place to find one?

You need the 73-74 style grille mounting brackets. Everything else should interchange.

No, but you can do it with a little bit of work. Here hopefully this helps

I am getting information from other sources that a 1973 grill will fit directly into a 75 GMC. They are saying GMC is different from Chevrolet in that you can swap them without changing brackets. Can anyone here confirm?

I have never done this swap, but I know that GM kept the GMC and Chevy trucks at nearly 100% interchangeability during the square body years. You will more than likely have to by the mounting brackets. If you are unsure, compare your existing brackets to the 73-74 brackets we sent you links to. If they match, then it should be a direct swap, if they are different, you need to buy new brackets.

Hmm... Not sure about that. I have not done the swap either, but I'm going to guess that you'll still need to change the center support and the side brackets. Like wyattTX said, pull your old grille off and compare to the pictures. If you are set on a 73-74 grille, the first step would be to acquire one, and then you will be able to see if what you heard about GMC is true. If not, $75 for new brackets and you'll have what is needed.

You don’t need to change the brackets. The 75/76 GMC trucks use the older style brackets that were on the 73/74 trucks. If you have the opportunity to look, you’ll see that the 75/76 GMC grille is just as deep as the 73/74 Chevy & GMC grille whereas the 75/76 Chevy grille is quite a bit shallower and thus needed redesigned brackets to accommodate.

73-74 GMC grille has different brackets and are unique to the GMC. The Chevrolet brackets are not the same. The latch and support must also match the grille. Here's a link to the 73-74 GMC brackets http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/sm...3952#msg243952

Re: Will a 1973 GMC grille fit directly into a 1975 GMC

I'll have to pull my grille out and look to see how my brackets are. I have a 75-76 front on my 78. It's a GMC with an external hood release. I'm curious now. I personally prefer the 75-76 grille, but I will look and compare to the pics, and post what the brackets are.
