What color for the rims? (86 C20 color 55)

I have a 1986 C20 Custom Deluxe. It is color 55 (option 55U) which I think is called Russet however the sticker in the glove box calls it Canyon Copper Metallic. It has the stock rims and hubcaps. Anyone know more about what this paint is really called?

I'd like to clean up the rims and I'm wondering what color of paint to use. As I look at it, it seems like some sort of cream color but maybe it is just discolored. I'm looking for a rattle can solution.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Are you asking opinion or for an actual paint code? I think plain white would be most appropriate.

I'm not so much interested in the correct color. Opinions are appreciated. I am tending to a cream. Suggestions of specific brands and colors are even further appreciated.

I forget the correct paint code but if you paint them to0 bright it will look weird.

Cool truck. The wheels should be white. Canyon copper is a pretty cool color. Polish that truck up and paint your wheels white and that truck will look really nice. IMO a cream colored wheel will always look dirty, not as crisp as a white wheel. Here are the wheels on one of my trucks, these are powder coated gloss white.

The correct factory color for the rims is bright white (like Joe is showing).

The documented name for code 55U in 1986 is Canyon Copper (Metallic).

Re: What color for the rims? (86 C20 color 55)

Thanks all. OK, I'm converted. White it is.

Joe, polish is in the plan. This truck is going to my now 15yo daughter. She gets her license at 16 so we have 9 months to get it in shape for her. She isn't interested in a show car. She likes it like it is. She grew up with this truck so she has an attachment. We just put put it up on stands and are working on the engine so wheels can come off and I can pretty them up.

That is one lucky girl!!! My daughter wanted my jeep so I got to keep my 87 shortbed 4x4. White will look great.

Re: What color for the rims? (86 C20 color 55)

I have been using gloss white Rustoleum 2X and white Rustoleum primer on a junkyard tailgate I picked up. It came out nice and I think I will use it on the wheels also. Remember to sand down the wheels first - I use wet sand paper(medium then fine grit.) It is on sale at Home Depot now for $2.99 per can. Don't use it without primer first - those wheels will take a beating from the weather and dirt.

I bought my 83 C20 with chrome trim rings and they look nice - a bit like rally wheels without the slots.

Re: What color for the rims? (86 C20 color 55)

Well, I said I kind of liked the cream color. Today I started cleaning the and when washed, they are pure white. The cream was all the dirt scum.

I've washed them, wire brushed, and scotch brited them down. They look pretty good. Only surface rust and it comes off pretty easy. Tomorrow I'll degrease, prime, and paint with white. I'm gonna use that 3x5 card idea to keep paint off the tire.

Re: What color for the rims? (86 C20 color 55)

I know this isn't the best picture. But my wheels are painted a Ford color from the 60's. Called Wimbledon White it's not a bright white, more on the cream side. Almost matches the tan color on the truck.
