That said, I switched over to Smugmug a couple of years ago. You don't know what truly ad free, Cadillac smooth photo hosting is until you try them. It's 50 bucks per year and soooo worth it. I used to pay 50 per year for Photobucket Pro before I found Smugmug. No comparison.
Thanks for the tips, I'll be checking both these sites out.

This. Come across an old thread and you can be fairly certain it's gonna have some dead photo links in it because people use other sites to share pics. I just upload em direct.

Wow this whole p bucket ordeal is really causing a crap storm on the net.
Dang near anything you search now has dead pics.

It seems that people bucket has found a corner in the market that some will jump at just to get their info back.

We have a hostage crisis going on here.

They can have them. I have copies of everything I need, but many build threads will suffer for this.

This might be helpful.

To delete a Free account:

Log into your Photobucket account.

Place your mouse on the Profile icon next to Plans (top right), and choose Settings. Your settings will display. Click Here if already logged in!

Click the Account tab and scroll to the bottom of the page.

Click Delete this account.

Enter a reason, slide the slider to prove that you are a human and click the Delete My Account button.

Thanks for that, I deleted my account, the last time I logged in was around 2014 anyway.

It says it won't take affect until 7/5/17 which is odd...

Re: if you use photobucket for image hosting you MUST READ THIS

This is kinda inevitable with any free image hosting site. They have storage and bandwidth bills to pay, either by advertisers or membership. Still, it's BS to spring membership fees on you after you have years of stored pics with them. I went through the same thing with picturetrail a few years back. I let them keep the pics and let thread images die.

Re: if you use photobucket for image hosting you MUST READ THIS

Had all my pics for my build threads on Pbucket.
Liked inserting pics as I explained what was happening.
Pbucket became harder and harder to use due to all the advertisements that pop up while you're trying to write a post(hoping back and forth to compile a thread).
Since the 'change' its forced me to start a new thread, still learning how to post, finding new ways to go about posting.
Really like NOT waiting while the pop ups load.

Thank you Pbucket for forcing me, with your corporate greed, to make a change. Life is better without Pbucket.

I hadn't been on photobucket in years, and I was already getting pissed at the constant pop ups while I was just trying to delete my account

I left photobucket a few years ago, too much adverts, popups and general sluggishness. I use Fotki it's only $25 a year and no hassels.

That would be a good idea. Open up editing of posts to all members for a short while in an effort to save some of the informative photos PB is holding ransom.

Re: if you use photobucket for image hosting you MUST READ THIS

Some of us will be willing to go back and update our threads for the benefit of the forum, but there are threads that we find where the thread started is no longer around. This really has a huge impact on every forum on the net and it sucks. I have my Jeep build on two different forums, my RC rock crawler builds on a different forum, and my truck build here. They all use photobucket links. I have emailed photobucket to let them know exactly how pleased I was with them and posted on their facebook page. I don't know how much good that will do. The email was responded to with an automated response so it is likely that no human has read it.

Re: if you use photobucket for image hosting you MUST READ THIS

I already got an email offer for a discounted subscription.

The promo code is "YouRock"

Yes, it is a "problem" with forums. I was looking for some stuff for my 2015 on GM-trucks.com and most of the threads had missing pics.

I'd love to know what the thought process is with these guys. There is no way they weren't aware that they were going to cause an uproar.

I've never been a fan of their site just because of how slooooow it is. That's why I just save my own pics.

Re: if you use photobucket for image hosting you MUST READ THIS

They aren't about to give anyone a chance to do anything. It's already done with the flip of a switch (so to speak). I had already begun copying pictures from photobucket back to my computer here and there once I stopped liking what it had become. It's a long process, though. Can we list all the options for hosting here for those like me who want to move it all over?

This has come up a couple times on another forum, some people said they can still see the pics in their post, but others say they're gone?

There are multiple threads on the same topic in the few forums I'm on.

Again, so glad Josh had the foresight to allow unlimited hosting through this site. Yet anther reason I willingly donate my $25 every year. I have a crap load of "build" and "how to" threads throughout this forum. I actually enjoy going back to them and seeing what I did, quite a bit of which I had forgotten about, etc.

this is a cash grab for a sale. if they lower their hosting costs by linking the smaller image (the small image they are using is 7KB, the average PB image size for forums is 1.7MB!) they will dramatically lower their bandwidth, and the few people that DO buy the membership will improve their cash on hand position. Add that to increased ad revenue (they are allowing the small image to link to the original image, which of course you can only see if you dont have an adblocker turned on) and their "business reorganization" will look great on a balance sheet.

It just goes to show that nothing is free forever.

Yes I'm happy this site is set up the way it is kudos too josh.

I love the fact I can go in my user cp and at the bottom there is "attachments" and be able too see any pic I've ever put on this board.
As my old pc crashed and I don't know how too get the hundreds of pics from it.

Re: if you use photobucket for image hosting you MUST READ THIS

Not surprising what PB did - greed, selfishness, arrogance and complete lack of empathy is the new normal now. Many folks who are on these and other forums are older and/or boomers (just go to a car show). I'm retired and don't have $400.00 to blow every time some greedy bean counter decides to pull some ageist BS...

I downloaded my website photos from PB today (easy to do). Moved them into my Flickr account and re-linked them to my website - all better (for now). Next, I have to download my truck pics and "rebuild" my build thread. No rush, PB is not going to delete them - but when I am done, I am pitching my PB account - for good. I'll spare them the expletive laced comments when I go - from what I can I see on the web news, they are getting a fair amount (to put it mildly).

Sad to say, this is our new world. The young'ins are all about the money. I don't consider myself old yet and my kids argue over my stuff. I told them a while back that they get nothing. I would rather someone in need that would appreciate it gets it. Nuf said
