1959 3100 Accelerator pedal return

So I am new to the old body style trucks and I have a question regarding the accelerator pedal linkage. It hasn't been driven since 1987, but I recently got it running and am in the middle of trying to get it driving.

The truck is pretty much all original and untouched. The linkage, return spring hanging off the block, etc is all intact and functioning, however the throttle doesn't return all that well when the pedal is depressed in the cab. If you push the rod sticking out of the floor by itself with your hand it snaps back into place nicely, but when the pedal is used not so much.

I was going to try and get a stiffer spring to pull the linkage down more aggressively but I was wondering if I was missing something? I couldn't find a diagram of the pedal all the way to the carb online.

The truck has a 235 straight 6 with the Rochester 1bbl B carburetor, SM420 4spd transmission.

Try lubing and cleaning the hinge part of the pedal and check the rod for binding when it is pushed with the pedal. Cab mounts, motor mounts or something else may have caused just enough shift between components to cause a slight bind in the linkage.

I'd also put a bit of squirt em on each point where the linkage has a pivot point.

Re: 1959 3100 Accelerator pedal return

here is the linkage from FAM. If the pedal assy is worn it might be binding the fiber washer at the floor or even hitting the metal. Since it is happening after use maybe heat is a factor causing something on the carb linkage to expand and bind.

Thanks, I just went over the linkage assembly and it is all there and intact. The fiber washer definitely is worn and the hole has considerable slop. I will lube everything up and give it a go. If that doesn't work I might just by a stiffer spring (the spring on it may not be correct anyway, who knows).

Figured out the issue. The hole in the gas pedal where the linkage snaps into it is worn out and won't hold it in place. The linkage rod pops out and binds. I'm assuming they sell stock replacement gas pedals.
