Post Mounting 3 on the tree to the floor?

My 69 Chevy pickup is currently a 3 on the tree. I would like to convert it over to a four on the floor. What would it take to do that? Thanks Brian Wolf

If you are using a 4 spd truck trans, you will need a longer drive shaft,& also a high hump floor pc(its bolt in,after you cut the stock floor hump out)......69

Cool

They sell the 3 speed shifter kit. But do yourself a favor, and get a good one. I've had 2 trucks with cheap ones, and they are nothing but a headach.

I just picked up a 1971 SWB truck which originally was 3 on the tree, now 4 on the floor. Not sure if the hump was changed - still looks low compared to my other trucks.

Is that possible? or must it be changed out?

As racedvl already said, if you decide to just use the three speed and put it on the floor, get a good conversion kit. The one that I have is junk and is always getting stuck in and out of gear, it has put me in a few dangerous situations. If anyone knows of any good ones let me know, I need to get that crap outta there. Good luck with whatever you decide.

My current six was 3 on the tree until i switched it to the floor. I bought a $40 mr gasket conversion that came with all hard ware. i got it at autozone. It was giving me some problems but they were just the cheap cutter pins it came with. Buy some heavier duty ones and it will work fine like mine. IN 3rd gear the shifter is close to the seat but not a problem. Just dont follow the picture instructions like i did. hehe i dont know what transmission the example showed because when i was done, i was so proud i put it in reverse to get it out of the garage and i went forward in first!! You are going to have to drill a hole in the floorboard, that metal is thick, i started a fire from the hot metal and the drill! the fire died after a few secs but thats the fun of mechanics. good luck. DUH!! i didnt read the part in your post about the 3spd to 4spd, my bad! nevermind the stuff about the 3spd shifter

I am going to be doing the same change over in a while. I have a Sparkomatic Mr Shift conversion kit. I know Sparkomatic made some real crappy stereos, but has anyone heard anything about this kit? Any suggestions on a different shift kit to buy? hey Pumpkin, do you have any pics of the install? or could you scan the instructions and e-mail them to me? Or if you have a fax machine you could fax it to 306-688-4075 that is my office fax machine (Saskatchewan, Canada). Many thanks

Hey dubie, i didnt take any pics of the swap, though my mother said i should of, it was funny because when i was finished i still had the origional column shifter in place, i drove it around like that for a month telling everyone that my truck was a 4x4! they believed me! hehe. i can take pics of the completed project but it may take a while. i will try to do the same for the instructions. Cutting out the hump? Are we talking just a hole in it for the shifter to fit through, or the entire hump and welding in a taller one?

I was thinking about putting a 4 or 5 speed manual in my '67 Pickup, but not if I have to change the hump?!

I've tried all of them, the Hurst is the best, be sure to get the spacing right on the upper mounting arm. If you adjust it so there is no strees pulling on it when it's tight, you won't break the flange. These kits all have a weak point and the mounting arms are it. I've broken 3 sets of mounts
