1969 Super Camper rear end question....

Just recently purchased a 1969 C20 Custom Camper, it has the 350V8 with a Turbo 400 transmission... manual brakes all around, 16" tires. The code in the glove box is calling out "G86 No Spin R Axle R " , what type of rear / gear ratio would be this be ?

Thanks !

Re: 1969 Super Camper rear end question....

I am pretty sure the G86 option was for the detroit locker unit in you eaton axle.

If no gear ratio is mentioned on the SPID the 4.10:1 was standard

Re: 1969 Super Camper rear end question....

Thanks for the information.... the truck was stored in a warehouse in Washington State near Spokane, all original except for one respray. Very clean on the bottom side, no rust issues to speak of...probably going to change the exhaust back to factory, don't care too much of it exiting under the bumper...

Beautiful truck.

It's an "Eaton" HO72 or HO52. Here's a good thread with a lot of pics:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ighlight=eaton

I think there's another thread around with some good info. Let me look...

Nice looking truck! Do you mean "Custom Camper"? If you post a pic of the SPID on the glove box door, the worthies here can fill you in on what it all means. You may want to cover the serial number to avoid theft issues.

Re: 1969 Super Camper rear end question....

Your rear, as mentioned, is an HO52 (HO72s came in C/30s), ratio is 4.10, the No-Spin is GM's name for a Detroit Locker. Without the Camper Nameplate option tour emblem would be CST/20. The heavy springs and equalizer were required options to allow the Camper nameplate.

The rear step bumper on this truck, was this a factory option or a aftermarket that the dealership installed ? Are they still available ?

Thanks

Re: 1969 Super Camper rear end question....

Step bumpers are kinda funny. Yes, that is a factory step bumper. No, it is not on the SPID. Yes, all bumpers were an option. In this era most states were just getting into requiring safety inspections for trucks. So, my guess they are an afterthought that dealers installed. They were an extra cost option. It maybe be that some were from factory and on the SPID. I'm a little cloudy on all this from memory. But that is the bumper GM offered through '71. I remember people complaining about dealers sticking them with that extra, when they had become required.

Nice, truck! The stance is perfect! That bumper is the better "drop" type from frame. Some later aftermarkets are not the drop style and come much too close to the body sheet metal.

His SPID lists V43 rear step bumper eq, and that looks like the factory bumper?

Re: 1969 Super Camper rear end question....

The reason why I was asking about the rear step bumper is that mine was damaged while being transported from Washington State to my home here in NY...long story....basically, it was twisted and the body shop will not be able to fix it. I like the look of the step bumper, my options would be to find another one or replace it with a non step bumper ( chrome ) that would match the front bumper.... are these rear step bumper still out there ?

Thanks

Re: 1969 Super Camper rear end question....

I really like your truck, it my trucks twin! Funny thing is my truck came from Portland Oregon so our trucks were from the same area. My tuck had a step bumper that would slide out to accommodate different size campers. I have taken it off and replaced with the standard bumper and and no longer need it. The thing weighs a ton.

Mine is brown. Interior looks good either way. When I bought this truck I wasn't necessarily looking for the color but it was a nice truck so I went for it. The color has really grown on me.

Maco - is your truck a single or dual exhaust system?? I want to change mine to a factory look, I don't care too much on how the exhaust exits under the rear bumper...

Re: 1969 Super Camper rear end question....

Mine is a dual exhaust out the side. Magnaflow mufflers with stock manifolds. Fairly loud but not obnoxious. Funny story, first time my wife went for a drive in my truck was a really hot day and I still need to fix the A/C so the windows were down. She turns to me and said is there something wrong or is the truck suppose to sound like this?
