A/C bracket choices

So I have my motor in and I want to keep my air...
It's still charged

My question is do they make new brackets for the old AC that will hold the compressor off the top of the valve cover?
It's the large Harrison compressor.

Re: A/C bracket choices

Original engine? Small block, big block or 6? If small block, old style heads? Year of truck?

EDIT: I see you posted a pic while I was typing.

How tall are those valve covers?

Re: A/C bracket choices

What type bracket do you now have? My 69 has an original bracket different from most small block brackets you see on this forum. I believe it was used at least on early 69s with 350s and is shown in the 69 service manual on a 350. It is massive and straddles the valve cover. That definitely wouldn't work.

Re: A/C bracket choices

That's what's on here too, front bracket bolts to the head then the rear bracket (3/4 way down the compressor) goes to another piece that's bolted to the intake.

I was hoping there was an alternative without changing out everything.
I'm afraid that I may have to switch compressors to get it off to the side.

Re: A/C bracket choices

Here's a couple pictures of the bracket I was describing. As I said, it'd be a no go for a couple reasons. The other type that is more common would allow you to swing the compressor beyond the valve cover closer to the fender, but your headers could also cause some problems.

Re: A/C bracket choices

I've still got factory air. Have you considered non factory pulleys with a new style A/C compressor? This is the setup from March I'm using.

Re: A/C bracket choices

Rufas, I was hoping to avoid such a purchase...
I didn't want to have to shell out a ton of cash to get it up and running (although it may not be a choice)

I am interested in what Fitech told you about their system because I was told that they didn't have a proper program for supercharged applications out which is why I bought the new carb for mine.

I have not heard anything about not having a proper program for supercharged application. There is a FiTech Users group on Facebook and there are quite a few using FiTech 'Power Adder 30004' with supercharges and turbo chargers. Either draw through or pressurized applications. The 30004 is set up specifically for supercharges. No one in that group has ever stated it will not work for them or that FiTech doesn't have a proper program for supercharges.

Certain ports in the base of the throttle body are plugged and the fuel pressure regulator has to have a boost reference. Also there are additional tuning parameters available on the 30004 that are not available for the NA FiTech units. The boost reference allows the fuel pressure regulator to increase the normal 58 psi to add additional pressure depending on boost. Example if running 10 psi boot your fuel pressure will be 68 psi.

I got the engine running just before I sent it to the body shop. That was 9 months ago. It ran fine, but was not able to drive it.

I also have the FiTech 30002 installed on my 67 Cutlass with a 468 BBC that was dyno'd at 518 HP. No problems at all. The FiTech really woke up the BBC! It's running fantastic.
