Re: cam question
Richard flip the carb over and there are numbers on the butterflies. That will tell you the carb size. You can turn it in to a decent street motor with a cam change, springs to match, a set of push rods, a different ignition and a better sized carb. You will need to get the heads worked and the chambers CC'd along with the pistons to determine the actual static compression you have. A set of flat tops may be needed to get what you need to work with a cam with good drivability in your panel. She is no light weight.

Re: cam question
Don't know how much $$ you're into this but I'd think somebody would swap a good running small block engine for it. Could be a good deal for a guy looking for a higher performance engine AND for you looking for reliable power for your truck. Choose carefully, but I've been trading, swapping, buying parts & pieces for 50+yrs. and have found WAY more good guys than bad. GOOD LUCK!!

Re: cam question
It is an oddball combination of parts assembled to meet specific rule for a race track and the class it was run. The bottom end is all stock parts and a dish piston so for most racers not that good a combo. The heads are not bad and the intake a decent match. You may do better parting it out.

Re: cam question
Well I was going to go over to the man's house that originally built this motor to see about a few more details on the bottom end to try and help me decide my future with it. He has been the backbone of the local Napa machine shop ever since I can remember. I just found out the other day he is the one that had built it or i would have went to him sooner with my questions. That is not going to happen now, just found out he went in hospital last week for surgery on his back. That apparently went ok but he passed away yesterday by unknown causes (to me). Sad day, I don't think he was 60 yet and had a heart of gold. Would help anyone any time if he could. He will be missed by a LOT of people.

Re: cam question
here are some pics for Jimmy. I did not see any numbers on it anywhere. I am assuming what is left of the lower foil label in pic 4 would have had the info on it or would the info be under the top cap?
Thanks .

Re: cam question
Looks like an old Joe Hunt standard Magneto. French Grimes has done mag service and repairs for decades. The options for the advance are 20 degrees and locked out on most of them.
