Post uhm how much splines are supposed to show when installed ?

those of you with 4 speed 2wd truck, how much spline is showing at the splines end of the front prop shaft where the rear prop shaft slips on, back from the backside of the bearing and back to the front nose of the rear prop shaft ?
i have 4 1/4" showing with shaft installed to axle and carrier member and to tranny
i think thats alot, i think its barely slipped on like 1/2", crap.. how long are the splines total, from the backside of the bearing*

please help , im soooooo close to having this shaft dilemma over with,
thanks

well its different being a manual shaft cuz the rear shaft can just slip off the end of the front and fall off, and if it does thne its gonna do some major damage to under truck, will hit frame rails and bed floor and such until the axle stops turning

anyone else ? anyone that can measure this for me under their 4 speed truck ?

thanks

I have a 4 speed/coil rear in my '68 c20.

When I swapped from HO52 to Dana 60, I had to shorten the rear shaft 1.75" to make it fit. I kept the same amout of spline engagement as original, which had about 1/2" of splines showing.

Don't drive the truck with too much spline uncovered, it will probably wobble real bad and could trash both front and rear shafts.

Before I shortened my original shaft I checked another shaft I had on hand, but it was too short by a few inches. I have no idea what it came from, but I still have it. It looks to be about 26.25" from eye to eye.

Still have it. Still has the female splined yoke on it, too. I'm moving from Fla to Ga in a few weeks so give a shout if this shaft might work for you, then I won't haul it to the dump.

Ok, I'll hang onto it. I'll start looking for a box or something to ship it in. How's 5 bucks plus shipping?
