Re: My Latest Toy - 72 K5 Blazer CST

After a few months of searching and waiting for a good front bumper to show up, I finally scored one. I picked up a new in the box Goodmark bumper on craigslist for $100! I think it made a huge improvement.

Re: My Latest Toy - 72 K5 Blazer CST

I completely forgot I made a build thread. I have been driving the Blazer as much as possible. I haven't made any significant changes but I have resealed almost everything in the last few months. I did upgrade the wheels. I'll work on some update info and post it later. My wife and I made about a 700 mile road trip this past weekend to Goodguys in Charlotte. We were one of only two Blazers there. I picked up a van tilt too. It will be installed soon. I should have completed some rust repair and metal work by now but for some reason I bought a 71 Chevelle. It's on the market so I can fix the Blazer instead. Here's a few pics to tease.

Thanks! It's funny how that pic looks red. I didn't paint it, its still factory Orange. I think it's just the camera angle and the shadow. I guess the factory did call it Red Orange

Re: My Latest Toy - 72 K5 Blazer CST

The Blazer loos really sharp, it looks like a great driver. That is what I would like to do to mine, just get it pretty reliable and some small upgrades. Then possibly a re due later.

I see that you have BFG 33x12.5x15's on it, do you have any lift on it too? or is it factory height suspension?

Thanks for the compliment. It really is a great truck. A friend of mine keeps trying to get me to paint it. I told him he's crazy. I love the patina it has. The front has 2" lift springs and a 1" block. The rear has a 3" lift block. ( they were 4" but I machined them down to 3")

We rolled out just after 12. Sunday is always a slim turn out. Feel free to message me. I know I won't be there in the spring. My department at work hosts a car show the same weekend. I do plan to make it next fall though.

If my Blazer will make it up there and back I'm sure yours will make the trip. We love the beach but since the state started the stupid driving permit and crazy fee, we haven't been as much. We go to the public access now and take the newer rides.

Re: My Latest Toy - 72 K5 Blazer CST

I made 2 more upgrades to the Blazer over the last week. First, I took the dual Rancho steering stabilizers off. I never liked that look plus when the were cold, they were too stiff. I installed a factory replacement from Napa after finding the factory mount here on the boards. It actually drove better. I also swapped the 3.73 out for a 3.07. I had to swap the posi carrier too since the 3.73 was a 4 series. Man! What a difference. I wish I did it before the road trip. It's like night and day. It sure would have been nice on the interstate. No pics... I'll see what I can do to take some.

Re: My Latest Toy - 72 K5 Blazer CST

Not much new but I decided to switch back to the rally wheels. (After a sand blast and some fresh paint) 15x8 with the same 33x12.50 BFGs. I liked the 10" wheel but think the rally just suits the body style better... for now anyway. I haven't decided if I'm going to run a trim ring or not. The old ones were rough so if I do, I'll have to order a new set. May try a narrow ring or just go back with the wide ones.

I think the rallies look fantastic. I'm voting on the narrow trim rings. I'm putting them on my Elkie.

Every time I drive it I get compliments on it. Some are in the form of "thumbs up" or big waves. I often have people come up to me and tell me how much they love it and countless offers to buy it. I can only imagine what you get driving either of your amazing rides!

I took the narrow rings off my 71 for now. I don't have a full set of the wide one any more. I'll probably order some 3" for the truck since I like the narrow ring on the Blazer. Makes the wheel look really deep.

Your Blazer looks good in Orange. The Rallies look right at home on there as well.
