Re: SGTUSMC '59 build

Does anyone have any info on the Caprice swap? I know EZ Chassis Swaps used to sell a kit to mount a task force body on a Caprice chassis but they've taken it right off their website now. I'd like to see how it all looks once the body is fit on the rails.

Harv, this truck is still, hands down, one of my all time favorites. Great job on both builds. And thanks again for the ride along

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build

Thanks Tim. I looked all over the net for the Caprice kit with no luck. I called EZ Chassis Swaps and left a message about their kit. I'll let you know what he says about it.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build

From any info I can find online it looks like a good choice for a donor. I found a place that has an old advertisement for the ez caprice kit but I doubt they sell them anymore.

Here ya go, These are the only pics of the under dash/console I have. I made it out of 10g. Sorry for the bad pics. I thought I had some pics of the back side of it. Guess they were deleted.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build

I welded threaded inserts into the kick panels. Welded tabs on both sides of the dash valence and top of console, so it just bolts in under the dash and to the kick panels.

Love the dash in your truck. I am in the process of making my own gauge face like yours, what size are the gauges you used?

sgt Thank you for the service and price you have paid for our country and for us. I hope that your holidays are great. I have been lurking on this site for a couple of years and your builds were some of the first that I followed and I have enjoyed your progress and the work looks great.

I'm using the Auto Meter Street Rod Series. The speedo is 3 1/8" and the rest are 2 1/8". The bezel/gauge plate is some 1/8 aluminum sheet.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build

Sarge,
May I ask a few more questions about your valence? It's obvious the center console is a separate piece from the two side pieces but is the whole thing welded or bolted together before you install it in the truck, or do you install them individually and the three parts bolt to each other? How does the center console bolt to the floor?

Yes, both sides are welded to the console. Theres a 3" flat plate that is welded across the bottom of the console (about an inch forward of the drink holder). I drilled it and welded nuts to the top of the flat plate. I drilled 2 holes in the tranny hump allowing me to bolt it in from the bottom. Once I had the console sitting right. I added the outer sections. I welded tabs on the tops and side of each piece. I bolted it all together in the truck. Then tacked it all together. Pulled it out, did the final welding and such. It's heavy, awkward, and a pain to install/remove. There's 5 mounting tabs that run along the top. They mount under the dash. 2 tabs along the drivers side that screw into threaded inserts in the kick panel. 1 mounting tab on the pass side due to my A/c unit.
I added a drawing of it. Sorry for not having real pics.

SGTUSMC: Was directed by Ricott to revisit your bed floor posts (#117). Great job. I am headed in that direction. Is there a chance you can post a picture or two of how you actually mounted the late model floor to the frame? Great build! Dug
