1936 GMC Dump Truck CL Find

Here's another one that looks interesting. They want $2500 firm. Looks pretty solid and complete for being 78 years old. That would be a pretty sweet dump truck if it were fully restored.

Just to clarify what I meant when I said, "pretty sweet", I meant the look. I have a '53 with a 216 in it and they aren't powerhouses. I'd hate to haul a big load on one. I do a lot of shifting just to pull the weight of the truck along. That's all the old ones had...torque multiplication through gears. That's how the medium duties are anyway. I know nothing about the heavy duties of this era. This was before Detroit diesels, which came about in 1938.

Interesting truck.

If shifting it is what it would take, I wouldn't mind at all.

I like to shift, lol.

I bet it would need to be double-clutched as well.

I would enjoy the challenge.

My '53 has a synchronized second, third, and fourth gear. First is not. I suck at double clutching. I usually do a lot of gear grinding when trying to shift down to first.

and BTW folks this is a 1938 gmc,, and its pontiac flathead has been swapped out for a splash 216 chevy.
the cab nose and hood would be the only parts good for a custom project, the truck fenders and running boards are different than 1/2 ton.

but there is 2500 worth of parts there.

I have wanted to do a custom job with a medium duty truck body transplanted onto a full size 4X4 chassis and running gear. The medium duties had a wider track width that would be better suited to fit the width of a more modern full size truck.

yea , both my COE's were 1.5 1n2 two.5 ( Deuce) army trucks and im mounting one cab on a crew cab chassis with 8 lug axles, i got a 3/4 ton 79 ford front axle--~ but nope not the d60, just a HD 44. for my get away vehicle/ camper.




The 37-8 fenders were same width wether thr 1/2 ton or like this, only ditterece is the wheel opening and rear bottom drops down 2" more at the running board

I've seen some of the medium duty trucks transplanted onto some two wheel drive light duty frames and the tires aren't nearly big enough to do those trucks justice. On the other hand, I have seen some 4X4 light duty ones with ~35 inch tires that filled the wheel openings and looked very rugged, which was very fitting for the truck. I figured the track width would be wider for the medium duty, just because I'm an AD medium duty owner and figured it would have been the same for the earlier ones. The bigger tires are definitely a must for these trucks though.
