Going to try and take a C-clamp and pull it back together then v grind the crack and weld it up. Then I will gind it down and possibly put a fish plate on it. I will have to see if it will pull back together first. Hopefully it will. I can't believe I didn't see that before.

Well sometimes we just don't see things, but I mean at least be grateful it's not a huge crack that it's something small and repairable.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build

I brought my frame home today. I thought I would start putting some small stuff back on at home instead of at the shop. I will need to do a little touching up on the rust shield paint. This will give me something to do while at home. I first had to pull the K10 out of the shed to make room.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build

Sad thing is, that the body guy said it might be another 2-3 weeks before he starts on my cab and bed. I am going to hang the tanks, put new brake lines on, install the old fuel lines and put the motor mounts back on. I need to paint the new brake calipers and put them on with the brake hoses as well. I think that is about all I can do at this point. I do need to get heads redone for either the 350 that came out of it or the 355 short block that I have waiting to be finished.

I called about an 05 GTO LS2 drivetrain but they wanted between $5-6000 for it. Not to include buying the headers, wiring harness, motor mount plates, tune or anything else that it might need. That was the original plan to put in an LS but my pocket book says different. Also when the frame got blasted one of the plugs that was in the wheel cylinder disappeared so I am thinking some blasting media got in there. I am going to take out the bleeder and try blowing some air back through it and see what happens.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build

Glad you got the truck frame back it looks good!

Bummer sorry to hear about your cab and bed I'm sure it's not exactly something you had planned in mind to happen but I mean at least it gives you time to work on the frame some more, but I'm sure the 2-3 weeks will fly by!!

I bet, how long has he had it in his possession? I'm sure I'm wrong but it feels like it's been about a month.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build

Two months. There has been a couple of other vehicles in and out of there getting paint jobs and now there are a few vehicles that have either showed up since my truck was there or have yet to come in that will be done before mine. Usually shops substitute restorations when not busy with collision work. I understand that but other than spraying a gallon of SEM rust shield on my frame he hasn't touched any of it. I guess the bed has been there the whole two months or so and the cab has been about a month. I will see what happens. I am not expecting him to stay on it until it is done but I feel like he should atleast do something on it.

It needs one outer rocker, a few small golf ball size dents fixed, one small patch panel on the bed then soda blast the cab and get ready for paint. The doors and fenders are NOS GM so they are pretty much ready to go. I will have the frame put back together tonight or tomorrow. I will quit ranting now. I am just ready to put it back together. I don't like the wait when I am waiting on someone else I guess.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build

Well that's bs man, to me it shouldn't matter if it's a restoration or not, you paid just like everyone else did so what's the difference either way I'd be pissed especially if it's been 2 months and he has nothing to show for.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build

Well I got a little bit done tonight. 85% done with all the fuel and brake lines. Just need to put on front calipers, front brake hoses and rear hose. I hung the fuel tank saddles. I forgot to get an old tractor tire tube so I didn't put the tanks on yet. Maybe tomorrow. I have to take the motor mounts of another frame I have and then I will be ready to start on the engine and trans. A couple of more hours and I should have the rest done.

I really need to clean up this bay. The problem is that I have a 30x63 shed but only about 24x30 of it has concrete. So I have everything on the concreted side. All my parts for this build as well as my K10. Not including all the other stuff that has to be on that side.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build

I have kind of taken some time off of working on the truck. Had a couple of jobs come up this last week and had to take care of those customers. I still need to cut the rubber strips for the gas tanks and hang the tanks. Haven't put any of the front steering components on either. Been kind of lazy here this last week. I am debating on whether I want to just wait on putting an engine in it. I might wait until I can put in a fuel injected LS or Vortec in. Not sure yet which way I am going on that.

you need to do something on it each day man, even if you only clean a few parts etc. or you'll get real lazy and it will start gathering dust...
now get to work

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build

I haven't been getting home til evening from my jobs and then it has been either, softball practice for my daughter, or its supper, homework, mow the yard (3 1/2 acres). Just about something everynight. By the time the girls go to bed I am ready for bed. I will either start back on it tomorrow evening or sunday afternoon. Business is starting to pick up so usually that means work seven days a week. I will give you an update in a few days when I get the steering and tanks put back on.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build

Not been anything going on with the build lately. Today marks the 2-3 weeks the body shop guy told me it would be before he could start. Today it has been three weeks since I brought the frame back home. I will be going back out there next week and gonna have to tell him I want it started on. I was just out there the other day just visiting and a truck that came in after mine was getting new rocker panels, cab mounts?, and sanded ready for a repaint. Already had the front end of and cab/hood sanded. It tis time to start on mine.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build

Holy Cow! The body shop actually got the outer rocker put on my truck yesterday. Only four weeks after they was supposed to start on it. Well actually it has been quite a bit longer than four weeks but that is another story. Going to start putting the pressure on now. Time for them to get some s@!t done to it. I had to go out and buy another truck just to keep myself busy until the short bed comes back home.

Re: Project Snowball- Slow build

Well now that you mention it maybe I need to pinch myself. Yeah he has a guy in there helping him now but still other cars are going before mine. I understand he is cutting me a deal but lets get something going here. I know its hard to stay on a vehicle non-stop unless you are getting paid to do that type of work in a short amount of time. I will be out there tomorrow hopefully and I will see what is going on.

Didn't have my camera today. The camera on my phone isn't worth messing with. I will try to remember to take it tomorrow if I can get out there.
