Wiring question 71 c10

On the diagrams I have seen, on a spare harness in another truck I have the dark green wires that run from the gauge cluster hook to the ignition switch then go to the fuse box. On my truck the green wire bypasses the ignition switch. Does not look like it has been cut and fixed anywhere. These seem to be for the temp gauge. What am I missing? Thanks

Re: Wiring question 71 c10

The green wires that go to the ignition switch are for the temp light to ground the sender wire, when the key is turned to the start position. this causes the light to come on as a test for the bulb. One of the green wires then continues on to the dash cluster to the number 5 pin on the cluster plug, to ground the light when the sender senses an overtemp on the engine.

When the factory installed the gauge cluster the light was no longer used and the two green wires were no longer used, instead one green wire was ran to the cluster plug and was moved to pin 6 on the plug. If your cluster has been converted then you are fine.

Re: Wiring question 71 c10

thank you thank you thank you

that makes sense

I have been battling wiring in this truck for a little while and this helps a lot. when I got the truck the purple wire for the starter was actually hooked into that position. I had to move it to the correct location

thank you again
