There may not be a definitive answer because it depended on what engine/trans combo it had, and possibly what year it was manufactured....

Re: Rear end ??

Dana 60

you could get one with a 3.54 gear in some big block trucks

Corporate HO52 w/ Eaton gears

frequently came with 4.10 or 4.57 gears, but steeper gears were available also that would work great with big tires. there was also a 3.90 set available from the aftermarket back in the day. but good luck finding them and they are only a slight improvement over the 4.10's

i prefer the corp axle vs the more universal dana. prettier looking and similar features to the 14 bolt that followed it, although the 3rd member comes out the front as a unit like on a Ford 9 inch. made swapping my 72 Suburban C20 from the stock 4.57 gears to 4.10's easy. 50-55mph isn't "too" bad on the highway now. my truck has hit 16mpg on a couple long trips thanks to the 307 sporting a Quadra-jet swap. once i get my other 7 bolt saginaw 3 speed (complete with borg warner r10 overdrive) rebuilt and installed, 20mpg shouldn't be hard to hit, plus 2500rpm at 70 instead of at 50.
