is the best action no action?

So I just bought this truck. I really like the original paint/patina. Question is, what should I do with it? As I'm in AZ, I don't have to really worry too much about rust, although it will be outside all the time (no garage space).

I guess my options are:
  • do nothing
  • buff/polish out existing paint so it has a bit of a shine
  • clear coat with a satin finish
  • clear coat with a gloss

Any thoughts? I'd like to see the different pics of what people have done. I remember looking at some similar trucks when I was checking out drop kits and they had either buffed out the paint with the patina or had cleared over it. It looked pretty good to me.

Agreed, that is an awesome truck. Personally, I'm not a fan of the highly polished patina. It just looks too unnatural with the faded paint. I think cleaning it up with CLR like everyone does and then stopping there would look great. You could even "polish" it with 000 steel wool and polishing compound afterwards. That's pretty much what I did with mine. It still has some shine in the sun but it looks flat and original in most conditions. Some have given me grief over the steel wool but it took off very little paint and left a smooth finish with a nice sheen.

Looks like I may have to get myself some CLR. That looks nice.

If you don't mind me asking, where do you get CLR?

TR-3 Resin Glaze works really well on these trucks.
