Re: 69 LWB Power Tour Rig

Update! Well, sorta. Been busy as hell with music projects, so the truck has only been touched a few times. Basically been just cleaning stuff up and doing little things. Only thing I've gotten to this week is to start working on my gauge bezel. I am adding a couple gauges, so far I have installed my Camaro tach. I took a crappy cellphone pic, so you can see it's in there... gotta still take the Goof Off to the glass and get the lines off. Going to add a different oil pressure gauge and another temp gauge for the transmission. The bezel is getting replaced, it's a little worn.

Soon I'll finish off the parking brakes, and put in the brake and fuel lines.

Re: 69 LWB Power Tour Rig

I'm new to the area and looking for some 1970 parts. L & R Fenders, R door, tailgate, outer grill, ect. Only looking for high quality parts. Any suggestions?
Also I have quite a few extra parts from me 2 donors of my project.

I know a few people locally that would probably be able to help. I'll ask my friend Randy I just picked up some parts from if I can send you his number, he's got a lot of parts right now. He's down in Canby but it's easy to find.

Re: 69 LWB Power Tour Rig

Update!!! My budget finally allowed for me to get some stuff for the truck, so today I scored a few things. Most importantly I scored a short bed for $900! It's straight, no rust holes, and the wiring harness and the lights all included! Strapped it to my Silverado and bringing it home tonight after work. Also scored an outer heater box, the one I had was broken at the heater core and strapped together (WTF?) so of course if you used it you'd get engine compartment fumes. Great way to get CO poisoning... LOL!! This one is perfect and the door swings smooth.

Also snagged a set of roller wheels, 15x8's with 255/60/15's for $75. They won't be worth driving on, the tires are a bit worn, but they'll be great rollers until I get my wheels. Plus I snagged a flip up license plate holder from the guy for $5!

Here's some pics. Finally going to get back to work on the truck here, got only a few months left for me to get this done and work out the bugs before the almost 7000 mile power Tour 2014 trip. At least I have all my body panels now!

Re: 69 LWB Power Tour Rig

Slapped that bed on my truck yesterday and cleaned up a bit in the garage. It's just laying on the frame right now on a blanket, to keep from getting the frame scratched up, but I threw a bedside on there to see how it looks. Wow, this is weird! This truck hasn't had a bed since I got it over a year ago... very odd to open the garage door and see this now! Great but odd!

Next stop, to make it a roller. 3 weeks and i can order my spindles and brake kit. The roller wheels look pretty good, so I'm gonna stick with those for now until I'm almost done, then I'll worry about them.

Much more cleaning and painting to come. Cleaning up the engine and trans will be next. Getting there! maybe having this running by March 1 will happen! Hope I didn't just jink myself... guess we'll see

Looks killer. From the looks of it that was a long bed cut down? You're moving right along!

Yup he showed me the bed before he cut it down and it was super straight and clean. Even the bottoms are clean, no rust. he did a great job cleaning it up too, I'm not going to have to do much besides give it a good cleaning and paint it.

How's yours coming along?

Re: 69 LWB Power Tour Rig

Couple pics and update. I scored a straight, clean, and shiny front bumper today from my friend Randy. Just needs a good polishing and it'll look new. It's a repro but it's a nice one, pretty thick and the chrome is really nice. Score! Plus I nabbed the taillight harness I was missing.

Went to the yard in Mollala but all I really could find that I needed (that was worth the trouble) was a pair of defroster hoses. Found a nice clean pair, for $3. Not bad.

Also slapped the sway bar on the truck today while I had a few minutes. Ordered my CPP spindles and brake kit today, so this time next week the truck just might be a roller (!!!!)

Movin' right along now!

Re: 69 LWB Power Tour Rig

Update! Truck is officially a roller! I finally got my CPP stuff, but wound up picking up Western spindles from Chevy Metal in Vancouver so I could get it together. Ironically, I found out the hard way that CPP does not supply dust shields with their brake kits, only with their spindle kits... so I am short them. Doesn't stop the truck from being a roller, so I'll get some on there before I actually drive the truck. For now it'll roll in and out of the garage so i can have room to work on it!

The parts went together really well, no issues at all. I do have to say one thing, CPP does have some great products. I just don't like their customer service. If you do have to call them, ask for Francisco, he did a great job when I called today to find out about the dust shields.

More pics this weekend, here's some pics from wednesday night. This weekend I have to finish greasing all the steering joints and sway bar, and clean up the disaster in my garage from thrashing to make the truck a roller!!!

Re: 69 LWB Power Tour Rig

I have the week off so I'm trying to get as much done as I can. My goal is to get the chassis done and the engine / trans installed, or at least bolted in. Day one was all about stripping the engine down, cleaning it up, and putting it back together. The morning started at 25 degrees, and only warmed up to 33 by 2pm. It was a little hard to work... but I went for it anyways. Here's a few pics. Also, I made a list for the day out of a cardboard box, Roadkill style. If Frieburger and Finnigan can do it, then I can.

Re: 69 LWB Power Tour Rig

Stripped down the engine to some good news. Looks like it's super clean inside, while it looks like it was running a little rich. Cam is super clean, lifters, cylinder walls , etc all in good shape. I got as far as the front cover and oil pan, and the cold got me. I"ll continue tomorrow.... brrrrrr

It's supposed to be colder tomorrow. Bah!

Re: 69 LWB Power Tour Rig

Today's progress. All done, next up is the brake lines. I mocked the brake lines up to find out that CPP supplies 73-87 hoses from the calipers to the frame (7/16") but stock 71-72 is 3/8". So I will have to grab adapters to hook them up... no biggie, was kinda hoping to have the whole thing buttoned up though.

Merry Christmas Everyone! I got a bunch done today on the truck. My wife was nice enough to let me just go to town for a few hours on the truck and I got a ton done. Pretty much have the whole chassis plumbed and ready to go. Here's some pics. Hope you all have a great Christmas!
