Need drive shaft help

First off, I am not interested in converting to a one piece drive shaft. This is an old farm truck, and it is just not worth the effort or expense.

Now then, I broke my rear drive shaft on my 71 C20 2 wheel drive with a corporate HO52 rear. This is the one that goes between the center carrier and the rear diff. I am having a HECK of a time finding a replacement, without going to a drive line shop and having the yokes put on a new tube.

Are there any donor vehicles other than the same truck that would work in a pinch? Preferably a vehicle that is easier to find.

I have had contacts that have C10 drive shafts.

I have had contacts that have the shaft for a truck with the Dana rear.

Both of these seem to be slightly different in length.

Can any of you help me out with some info?

Re: Need drive shaft help

I had the same problem and ended up having to have a shop fix it.. I couldn't get an answer on this question after some furious googling as it sounds like there is some variance even between c10s. Good luck

Re: Need drive shaft help

it sucks, but its likely going to be easier to measure the length and have a driveline shop sort it out for you. I just had my '71 shortened last week due to how much I lowered it. They replaced U joints, carrier bearing, cut to length, balanced, and painted it for $300. I felt that price was more than reasonable because it was a problem I couldnt solve.

Re: Need drive shaft help

Had the same problem and took an old shaft same dia. shaft, cut the proper section, placed in an angle-iron/vice jig, welded it myself. Got lucky, I mean it is an old farm truck!
