If you push the "auto 4x4" button, it has a sensor that kicks the 4x4 in when it feels the wheels slip.

Yes, it should have an "auto 4x4" button, 2 HI, 4 HI, and 4 LO. When in auto 4x4 it engages 4 HI when it senses wheel slip and goes back to 2 HI when the wheel slip is gone.
