Budget bed for budget AD build.
I installed a Classic Parts pine bed kit. I went with the pine since this truck still carries stuff and I'm on a budget.

looks good..just keep sealer on it and it'll last a while..don't forget to seal the bottom as well...my neighbor found that out last year..the sunny side of his looked good but the underside was a different story..

I gave both sides and all four edges of the boards two coats of boiled linseed oil. GMC Paul tells us that AD truck beds were sealed at the factory with linseed oil and lamp black. I also learned how to get right side up pics with a i phone.

It looks great. I remember coating the flatbed on my grandfather's 48 1 ton with linseed oil after we rebuilt and redecked the bed in about 1961. That was my summer learning project with my grandfather that year. That bed is still out here at my place waiting for my brother to pick it up and put it back on the truck.

That does look good. Mine had an old, greasy sheet of 3/4" plywood for years. "Work truck" was all I replied when people made comments.

Excellent job. Many hours of careful work there and some are unaware the effort involved in bed replacement. I wish i could have used wood again (instead of "marine" plywood but weather on coast would eat it up in a few years.

What's a good budget idea for the cross bars under the wood? My 52 is going to need one mayyyybe 2. Friend of mine with a 50s ford said he used those posts that hold up street signs with all the holes in them

For cross member's I'm using heavy duty commercial shelf rack with the slots.. Its a u channel shape about 1x1x1. Many stores toss it when they remodel. Its seems ok for my application as tank comes close to bed. I had a pie of it and will add 3 cross rails to support the choicedek bed planks. Two pieces of bed rail welded together was my seond choice.
