2003 Suburban Check Engine Light

Hello I have a 2003 Chevy Suburban, 5.3L with 103,000+ miles on it. Today my check engine light came on. I am wondering will needing a tuneup be something that would cause this? Or needing to recharge the K&N air filter? The owner's manual doesn't make it sound like a real big deal to have the light on, but it drives me nuts and I want to take care of it before something worse happens. Thanks for looking
Eric

Re: 2003 Suburban Check Engine Light

Well, today while driving i looked down and wow...the check engine light is now off??? never did anything to change it so now i'm really wondering what's going on, i'm still going to recharge the air filter and get the tune up done, hopefully that'll take care of it.

Re: 2003 Suburban Check Engine Light

Hello, Not to change the subject but what do you mean by "recharge the K&N air". I have never used one and just wanted to know.

Thanks
Ralph

Re: 2003 Suburban Check Engine Light

IT 'could be' a lot of things. Really need a diagontic tool to know for sure. The last two times the 'check engine' light came on in my 98 Suburban it was for faulty O2 sensors in the exhaust. I think it had 4 or 5 O2 sensors.

Code readers are available from $100 and up.
