Re: Project C10

I pulled the front bumper and grille off of the truck and installed my air tank lastnight. Now I need to wire up the compressor and pressure switch, and run some new airlines in preparation for my paddle valve switches and gauges. I will get some pics of the progress up very soon.

Re: Project C10

Here are the updated pics from last week and the weekend...

Cut out radiator support for air flow

Cleaned up my gauge bezel, primed and painted it.

Started cleaning up the grille shell, trying to straighten it out as much as I can before I paint it

Tore down all the gauge cluster, cleaned it up, repainted the needles and the back ground white. I have heard this helps to brighten up the gauges. I then reassembled everything and am just finishing up fitment of my tach.

Then I mounted my airtank and plumbed it up to the compressor and made a hardline to go through the frame. This is a 3/8" aluminum line that will be reduced to 1/4" plastic line to feed my paddle valve switches. I also added an air chuck for tire fill ups and the pressure switch.

Lastly I began painting my front bumper to clean up the front end a bit.

Update:
I received my column shift linkage and my clear park lamp kit today from ECE, cant wait to get this stuff installed.

Re: Project C10

Finally got my gauge cluster back together, I will post pics soon, also finished my front park lamps. I started on my column shift, but need to get a few small parts to finish that before I post any pics. Hope to get a lot done this weekend, the weather is supposed to be nice.

Re: Project C10

Alright here are the pics of the gauge cluster all finished and ready to go back in, I added the little Sun-Pro tach for now. Turned out pretty well I guess...

The two small holes are for my "check-engine" light and alarm LED

Next I finished up my "new" front park lights, sand blasted the housings, shot them gloss white and added a clear lense kit from ECE.

The next project was to complete my column shift conversion by hooking up the shift rod from the column to the transmission. (I had a B&M trans mount floor shift) I purchased a Kugel Kustoms kit and ended up having to get a longer piece of all thread to get it work on my application. I feel this is due to my engine being back in the 6 cylinder mounting holes and having a 700R4, the components of the kit are very nice, stainless steel and highly adjustable. I just need to adjust my pointer a little and it should be good to go.

Lastly I started routing my airlines into the cab for my paddle valve set-up I am going to do, I have the front lines through, just need to pick up some more airline to bring up the rear bags and the feed line from the tank. I plan on building either a small front console or a complete full length console, so these will not be seen when that is completed.

Re: Project C10

I used the factory 67-72' engine stands that were in my truck (I assume for a V8, which it already had swapped in) and the factory style 67-72' engine mounts (mine are Prothane urethane mounts) I have no idea what you would do in a square body though, I would PM Bob (glock35ipsc) and ask him about the engine mounts, he will know for sure. The LTx block has the "old" and "new" bolt patterns in the block, so you may be able to use your factory engine mounts.

The air intake is a replacement aluminum elbow for the factory "bellows" elbow and then I used a 5 wire MAF (LSx style) and a conversion harness to hook up the integrated IAT (that is now in the MAF, instead of separate like the LT1 set-up) I built the rest of the intake with 4" parts and a conical filter.

The headers are ceramic Pacesetter factory replacement for the 93-95' Camaro (single cat models) that included the Y-pipe, I had to have the rear O2's programmed out because the 96' model had dual cats. I can get you the part number for them if you need it.

Hope this helps!

Re: Project C10

Update:

I prepped the grille shell and have it in primer, it just needs to be sanded again, then the color goes on.

I also mounted my engine oil/power steering cooler combo, just need to finish the plumbing.

Next up is finish the above projects, then paint the bed, cab, front fenders and hood, so I can reassemble the interior.

Re: Project C10

Completed the plumbing to the p/s cooler and oil cooler finally (see pics) I also had my bro weld up my cowl (antenna hole) and help me with some body work on the cab. Then I finished up my "ducting" for the cold air intake and started to sand the interior. I also sealed up the rain gutter seam and just need to sand the rest of the cab and doors, then more painting...

Cooler Combo

Cowl

Rear Cab Seam

Cold Air Intake

Re: Project C10

Update from the weekend, I painted the cowl, did a lot of sanding and "tried" to replace a couple of body mount bushings (the bolts were rusted to the sleeves and have to be sawz-all'd out now) I also cut up some carpet padding I had laying around for a ghetto sound deadener (temporary I hope) and also cleaned up a painted the floorpans to prevent rusting.

Sanded Doors

Carpet Pad

Repainted floor pan and routed some speaker wire

Sanding in progress on the dash and interior

Update: My truck has never had a rear bumper as long as I have owned it, so I finally (after all these years) purchased one. I recently installed the new bumper, brackets and gravel gaurds. Here are some pics from the install, let me know what you guys think.

Brackets installed with gravel guards:

That LT1 sounds pretty good. Kind of a shame those Gen II's are shoved aside in favor of the LS motors.

Thanks, its a little too loud inside right now, but sounds good. They are avoided mostly because the Opti-Spark is a pita to deal with... but I still love them.

I had a 97 z28, so I understand what you are saying about the ignition. I haven't looked personally but I wouldn't doubt it if these engines were fairly cheap at salvage

Re: Project C10

Yea luckily I replaced the Opti, waterpump and plug wires while the engine was still on the stand. I cant even imagine the pita it will be on my Camaro, I will probably just drop the subframe.

I pulled mine out of a totalled Camaro for very cheap, Im sure they are easy/cheap to get on the F-Body forums/junkyards

Re: Project C10

Update: I recently received my governor calibration kit for the 700R4, been playing around with that with minimal success...

I ordered Autometer water temp and trans temp gauges for the truck, also ordered new front brake lines for it. Over the weekend I installed an ECE hidden hitch, trailer wiring and flip up license plate bracket. (pirated the hitch, wring and license plate bracket from the 67' for the time being) Sorry no pics yet, I also had to remount my air compressor (interfered with the hitch) and replaced my fuel filter.

I just ordered an ECE trans crossmember to replace my "universal" unit I used the first time around... hopefully soon I can get the trailing arm crossmember and then tuck my exhaust all the way up.

Plans for the summer are to get drop spindles, new front brakes, c-notch the rear and swap to 2600 Dominators in the rear to match the front.

Re: Project C10

Ok update time, I finally got around to messing with my governor again and think I am making some good progress. The shift points are finally getting very close to what I wanted, 1/2 is about 5,500 and so is the 2/3 shift. I need to drive the truck again when the TFT is warm and make sure its ok before I change anything again. I think I have the #1 & #2 weights and green & yellow springs right now. (need to confirm this)

I installed my Autometer Pro Comp water and trans temp gauges, need to get some pics of them and they work great. Hopefully tomorrow or Saturday morning I will be installing my new front brakelines, then I have to help a friend move...

Pics coming soon.

Update: Here are the pics.

ECE Hidden Hitch
