drip molding and mirrors

Are the drip molding nessecary? Just curious before I snatch em off. Also what am I looking at getting into with taking the big mirrors off for some low profile ones?

Re: drip molding and mirrors

Well if you you have good seals on your truck it shouldn't leak but on my burb I have taken them off and every time it rains hard and I get in or out of it it pours down water straight down on me instead of off to the side.

With the mirrors you will have to drill out three rivits where your mirror bolts in and weld up the holes. Then drill the new holes for the sport mirror.

Re: drip molding and mirrors

Do not remove your drip rails. The po of my truck did this and I would like to give him a swift kick in the @$$. I have went to get in my truck a few times and had to go back inside to grab a trash bag to sit on because the seat was soaked due to me not making sure the door was shut tight.

Re: drip molding and mirrors

Drip rails were an option back in 73 .....but after numerous customer complaints they became standard

If you are using the truck in good weather only it will clean up the lines by removing them

But for a daily driver it is annoying to have water dripping on you

It really depends on the condition of your door seals. You can can spray the door with a hose and check for any leaks.

I really like the look of the shaved drip rails and handles but been reading bad things about the aftermath

really torn on what to do? would new weather seals keep the truck dry?

Re: drip molding and mirrors

When I got my '75 K20 both drip rails were damaged and leaked badly. After replacing them with two from the junkyard-the leak stopped. They almost seem like a cheap after thought but unfortunately are very necessary.
