Air Intake question

I have a 1999 NBS silverado 1500. It has the 5.3 V8 in it. I'm looking to do a new air intake system. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a semi cheap air intake but that still works well. What is your recommendation? Also how much will this help my MPG's?
Thanks so much for the help!

Re: Air Intake question

Hi Blazer Dude I've got a 2000 Sierra with a 5.3 and a AEM Brute Force intake system. Pretty happy with it but not really cheap. You can find an intake system for yours on ebay a lot cheaper and that probably works just as well. I saw a 1 maybe 2 mpg increase with mine. Not really that noticeable.

Re: Air Intake question

I've got the cheapo ebay cold air intake. Really they all do the same. I've read the most effective is an airaid mit and k&n drop in filter.

Re: Air Intake question

I used a specture cold air intake on my 99 with the 5.3 from summit racing and seen a 1-2 gain in mpg.

Re: Air Intake question

Volante CAI on my 4.8 2002 GMC Sierra ECSB & in tracking my mpg I saw in my very first tank a 2mpg gain despite all the "playing" I was doing enjoying the extra power. With the stock intake it wouldn't light the tires at all, not even from a standing start. It just went. Now it will light the tires with the brakes applied.

Re: Air Intake question

They are all about the same, and shouldn't make that much difference.

I designed the original air induction system for the GMT800 trucks (still in use) and the requirements were sized for the Diesel and MarkV engine airflows (1" Hg @ 272 g/s flow, from ambient air inlet to engine intake).

The 5.3 airflow was quite a bit less than that (hence the restriction is quite a bit less - like 1" Hg @ 253 g/s, if memory serves), so the production setup is more than adequate.
