Fuel Filler Neck rusted out

Well, sad day. I was going to put in my new gas tank but thought I better check out my filler neck since it had some other rusty pieces around it and sure enough, discovered a large hole right where it meets the floor and has the gasket around it.

So, other than buying a used one from the forum, what are my options? Is it possible to clean it up and weld a new section on? What have you guys done in the passed?

Normally, i would say go for the fix, but, that area has a reduced shoulder at the bend....could be difficult and time consuming to weld or solder

Since these parts are accessible in the parts forum, JMHO, but it may be an easier fix to buy a used one.....unusual place for rust to appear, never seen that before. I guess the gasket held water

Re: Fuel Filler Neck rusted out

I'm not surprised that it was rusted out. I'm thinking if I do attempt to fix it, I'll cut it way back to near the top, and weld on from there, but I will try to locate one before I attempt it

Well, good luck with whatever direction you take....i ll keep an eye out for you on the classified. I suppose you could get a mandrel bent 90

Korinek or tee it up, would be a good place to start. If i had one, i d ship it to you

Nice looking Jimmy

Re: Fuel Filler Neck rusted out

Since you're relatively near-by in Corvallis, i can bend a 1.25" tube 90* and give it to you. Or I could weld it in if you need. I probably have some in the cut pile.

Just another option.

Re: Fuel Filler Neck rusted out

I appreciate the offer, but I found one in the classifieds.

For now, this one is going on my wall of shame (all the "cool" crap that have come off my vehicles)

Thank you again for offering!
