'60-66 American Auto Wire questions

I just bought a brand new wiring harness for me '62 and was wondering about the headlight wires, in the top corner by the master cylinder there was a plug/grommet and on the replacement it seems like the new wires just run right through no plug, are people just running it like that or putting a plug in?

I have done both actually. If a show vehicle then get a plug.

Re: '60-66 American Auto Wire questions

Like 64 Patina I have been wondering about the same thing. Will run a new harness soon and would rather use something that looks professional as opposed to typical hardware store rubber grommets. Any sources for what the pros use to bundle wires and pass through the firewall (with some weather protection) would be very helpful.

Re: '60-66 American Auto Wire questions

All that was in my AAW kit I used on the 65. Some assembly required. What kit did you get? I used the classic update kit for these trucks.

Mine had the plug as well.

You can see in this pic I don't have the headlight harness plugged in.

When you buy the wire harness the rubber is not in the kit.

I was able to use the original grommet. It wrapped perfectly around the new harness.

Re: '60-66 American Auto Wire questions

I too used the AAW 60-66 classic update harness with my 62. The kit comes with all the plugs needed but not the grommets. You can get the correct grommets from any of the vendors that sell 60-66 parts. They will likely have all of them in kit form.

Re: '60-66 American Auto Wire questions

Quick tip: When you do the instrument cluster wiring, re-use the metal light sockets. Use the new connectors in the AAW kit, but use them with the original metal sockets that snap into the back of the instrument cluster.

That's the only complaint I had with my kit--the plastic light sockets left a lot to be desired.
The rest of the kit was top-notch!

Re: '60-66 American Auto Wire questions

One thing i havent had time to figure out yet is the wiper wiring on mine. I have a 62 and the plug is right but the second i put the fuse in it it pops the fuse.

Anyone know anything about what changes need to be made for this? they are just the single speed 62 wipers.

And i am using the AAW kit.

Re: '60-66 American Auto Wire questions

DeD short inside the switch would cause that to pop.
A dead short wife would also do if.
I had the same problem with a factory spot light.
