Going from a stepside to a fleet side??????

Does anyone know what's involved as far as parts go to do this swap? I am thinking of buying all new stuff. If anyone has any input please let me know.

Just take one bed off and install the other. The rear light harness and rear bumper will need to be changed to match the new bed.

I have to buy all the pieces of the bed. Do you know if any of the structure under has to be changed.

A new metal fleet floor will be ready out of the box, the structure is all welded to it. A wood floor fleet will be all different from your step. All those braces will be fleet specific.
The truck frame is the same no matter what bed you have.

Re: Going from a stepside to a fleet side??????

So if I buy a set of sides a front panel a tailgate lights and bumper will be all I will need other than a wood floor for my bed or a metal panel? Sorry I am completely dumb when it comes to this I have always had cars. If I do a metal floor is it all bolted together like the stepside or is it all welded together?

Re: Going from a stepside to a fleet side??????

They are all bolt together step or fleet, but you will need the cross rails also, they are longer on a fleetside. So basically saying you will be starting as if you had no bed at all. Nothing will work from the stepside bed on the fleet. Some of the vendors actually sell a complete bed kit if you are wanting all new. Also if you are wanting to go with a wood floor I sell wood floor kits, link in my sig

I have had no luck locating a used bed so I figured the only option I have is all new.i have not seen any kits with a whole new bed. Do you know what vendor has them?

Re: Going from a stepside to a fleet side??????

I know gmc Paul's has them as a whole kit, probably others do too.

The wood floor for either step or fleet bed is a bolt together deal, the under floor supports are all individual parts that bolt together with wood and strips.
The metal floor is a big one piece unit with all the under braces welded to it. The sides and front panel then bolt to the floor.

Re: Going from a stepside to a fleet side??????

This is a new wood floor bed from AMD. I have put several of the GM beds together and I'm telling you this AMD sheet metal is thicker and a bit heavier even than original GM metal. All the holes lined up nicely too. If your truck is a long bed it will take more cross sills of course.

The truck was originally a step side too..

Seriously though I was way impressed by AMD products.
