My early Christmas present..64 Chevelle SS
I haven't posted in awhile, but had to tell everyone I know. I got my early present being delivered tomorrow. Its a all original '64 Chevelle Super Sport, 327, auto, A/C..etc. I was wondering if anyone knew of any websites like this one for it? I'll post up some pics when it gets here. It was a complete surprise, the little woman did good this year...

Pics?
Nice ride, I owned a '65 ElCamino for a couple of years myself, ending up with the '70SS. The largest Chevelle website would be www.teamchevelle.com Lots of everything Chevelle there

Re: My early Christmas present..64 Chevelle SS
IMHO, the best year for the Chevelle. I may be biased though, having owned one I had to sell, and my best friend having had one.

Re: My early Christmas present..64 Chevelle SS
64's are sweet but a little hard to get parts for. here are pics of the one I just sold last summer. built it from a 500.00 field car. Definatly stop by Team Chevelle tons and tons of good info there. I am there under the same screen name. Enjoy and if you have any questions let me know I spent allot of time looking for parts and researching the 64

Re: My early Christmas present..64 Chevelle SS
Cool,
I am working on an old lady that has a 64 SS so I can flip it. The only thing is it's a 6 cylnder SS so I am not really sure what the market would bare for something like that. (Not trying to hijack the thread) |

Y'know, they say 'tis better to give than to recieve. Think about how good you feel recieving that lovely piece of steel - and how much better you'll feel when you give it to me. Please PM me so that we can review delivery dates and coordinate title transfer.

Re: My early Christmas present..64 Chevelle SS
you might wanna do a little vin # research on that one, or ask about it at Team Chevelle. The smallest motor i've ever seen in an SS was a 327

I had a 64 SS with a 327 and four speed in high school, although it originally was an SS with 6 cyl and automatic. Some day I will own a 64 convertible.

Re: My early Christmas present..64 Chevelle SS
Both of the ones I had dealings with were 283/powerglide combos. While mine could have been suspect, my buddy's father had bought theirs new. I have never seen any mention of a 6cyl SS though.

Re: My early Christmas present..64 Chevelle SS
So maybe it would a rarity? If it all matches.
It's almost become an obsession of mine to get that car out of her hands. It's been sitting under a giant Oak tree for ten years that I know of and she wont budge. She keeps saying that it's part of an estate and she doesn't know what "they" want to do with it. Well I have since met her nephew and he said that she's the only "they" left and that the car was driven up under that tree about twenty years ago and she wont sell it or anything else out there. I think I'll see if I can go take some pictures of the chevelle and a couple of others. Gee I hope I don't accidently lock bumpers with it and end up dragging it all the way home |

My Christmas present is...My 70cst will be picked up next week and be taken to the body shop for a complete make over. It will take 4-6 months before the truck is complete. This will be my Christmas gift for the next 50 years.

Re: My early Christmas present..64 Chevelle SS
While I am not as familiar with the earlier years, the later 60s are more my thing, I am still not really buying it. Many of the options back then forced you to take others and some forced deletion of some too. I find it hard to believe that "SS" which is a performance option, as opposed to a "trim package" option, wouldn't require a V8....maybe even a high level V8. The options were even rated as far as dominance. SS was a "higher" level than RS for example.
In cars where both were available, like Camaros, if you had both onel the SS badges were installed. Z/28 did even more, you could get RS with Z/28 because RS is just a trim package that did not interfere with the Z/28 stuff. However you could not get SS and Z/28 together since both were performance options that would exclude each other.... In the early years Z/28 forced the delete of: Automatic transmission Air-conditioning Convertable top any other engine options Like I said, I am not as familiar with the earlier years...............but still doubting. |

Re: My early Christmas present..64 Chevelle SS
I know in 64 and 65 you could get an SS with a 6 cylinder. I know in later years you could not get an SS with a 6 cylinder, but I don't know what year that stopped. I presume 65 was the last year, but not sure.
Here are partial VIN charts from Chevelles.com 1964 Example VIN as follows: 45637K104973 4 = Model Year 56=Series 37=Body Style K = Assembly Plant 104973= Unit Production Number (All plants began with 100001) Series: 53- Chevelle 300 or El Camino, 6 cylinder 54- Chevelle 300 or El Camino, V8 55- Malibu or Custom El Camino, 6 cylinder 56- Malibu or Custom El Camino, V8 57- Malibu SS, 6 cylinder 58- Malibu SS, V8 65 Chevelle VIN Chart: Example VIN as follows: 138675A153493 1=Chevrolet Motor Division 38=Series (V8 SS) 67=Body Style (Convertible) 5 = Model Year A = Assembly Plant (Atlanta) 153493= Unit Production Number (All plants began with 100001) Series: 31- Chevelle 300, 6 cylinder 32- Chevelle 300, V8 33- Chevelle 300 Deluxe or El Camino, 6 cylinder 34- Chevelle 300 Deluxe or El Camino, V8 35- Malibu or Custom El Camino, 6 cylinder 36- Malibu or Custom El Camino, V8 37- Malibu SS, 6 cylinder 38- Malibu SS, V8
