GVW of a 94 Suburban 2500

I have as the title states, a 1994 GMC Suburban 2500 2wd. From all the literature Ive read, the 2500's were 8600 gvw...my door jam sticker says "7500" gvw!.. How is that possible? My truck is a 454/4l80E, 14blt full floater, all the RPO codes match everything about mt 'Burb.
The reason this concerns me so much is because emissions testing goes by gvw here.

That's the sticker for improved ride, it lets some air out of the tires.

There should be another sticker lower on the door. It is probably faded. It says 8600 is the gvw and the rear tires should be at 80psi.

Re: GVW of a 94 Suburban 2500

My '88 C2500 2 wd, did have firm sidewall 16" tires with a max pressure of 80psi, but I ran 45 psi. My GVW is 7500.

Re: GVW of a 94 Suburban 2500

There is another label. 95 and earlier trucks have labels that are prone to fading.

You guys are opening the door and seeing the label that is not faded first

A 2500 truck could have a GVW of 7200 or 8600. But all of the 2500 suburbans were 8600.

Re: GVW of a 94 Suburban 2500

Yes there is a large label below it, but as Trucker said its faded beyond legible, and it looks nothing like mountie's, mine looks more like paper, lol.
"I" know its 8600gvw, but trying to convince the smog tech when he sees this sticker, he wants to argue. So I pulled up GM Heritage Center info and he wanted to argue why that sticker was on there, so I told either smog it, or I will give someone else the money, he smogged it as 8600 and it BARELY passed, he said if he would have entered the lower gvw, I would have failed for sure

Re: GVW of a 94 Suburban 2500

Yea.. I can barely make out the 7200 on my sticker by using a magnifying glass.

Re: GVW of a 94 Suburban 2500

There were 6-lug Suburbans sold as 2500s as well. Those weren't 8600 GVW were they? It had something to do with playing the emissions game. Maybe just 6.5TDs?

Re: GVW of a 94 Suburban 2500

I thought the 6 lug Suburbans were all 1/2t 4wds. I think only the truck LIGHT duty 2500s were 6lugs.

The GVW of a K1500 suburban 5.7 is 7200.

Re: GVW of a 94 Suburban 2500

In the top left corner of the option list in the glovebox there is C6P. I see that option on the list of my K2500 which tells me it is 8600 GVWR. The PO of this truck peeled part of the label away in the door jamb and it's impossible to tell otherwise.

Re: GVW of a 94 Suburban 2500

I'm talking about diesel Suburbans. But it was the other way around. They sold K1500 Diesel Suburbans with 8-lugs. They were in all reality a K2500 with K1500 badges and the lighter duty EGR on the engine. A game played to meet emission or economy requirements.

I think it was the c1500 suburban 6.5 that had the 8 lug wheels. I've seen lots of k1500 suburbans with the 6.5 that had 6 lugs.
